Plusnet ended 40/20 on fibre extra

Shame. I have their 40/20 packet (started in Feb) does it mean that when it comes to an end in 15 months time I will have to downgrade to the 40/2? :(

One would imagine if you don't renew and simply keep paying the DD, your service "should" continue as is. Muchlike when your mobile operator changes its price plans, but you don't take out a contract renewal or phone upgrade.

A plus net rep said on the forums that as long as you continue paying it will stay the same 40/20 it will only change if you change your package or move house or something.

I suppose they want more sign ups on the higher fibre package. 40/20 vs 60/20 for me so the lower was a no brainer.

Plusnet are going downfalls as I think they are in trouble with financial matter. Plusnet are seem going backward to join TalkTalk 40/2.

Their staff have basically said it's a cost cutting measure for the lower end package -

I can only think its a massive cost cutting exercise, with a saving to PN of £43.92 , per year , per line

To be blunt about it, yes, that's the likely reason.

Actually that's one of the reasons I like Plusnet, their staff are pretty honest compared to other ISPs.

It's a tricky one, as a company they want as many sign ups as possible and the majority of people won't even look at the upload speed so cutting it to 2 won't be noticed and will allow them to keep the price lower.

60/20 is clearly the package they are aiming at the enthusiast market.

That was one of the reasons I stuck with Plus.net cos they offered the same upload on the lower package than the higher.
Will see what they offer me when renewal comes along.

I see Plusnet have now changed the details of the up to 38 Mbps FTTC to read upload speeds up to 1.9 Mbps but since its still priced at the same price of £14.99 after the first 6 months, I've found a better deal.

SSE are doing their 38 Mbps Fibre package at half price for 2 years, £10 PM plus line rental and has a 10 Mbps upload, unlimited downloads subject to fair use.

You know nothing about the support and ISP network.

Well I used to work for BT Wholesale so I know enough that the ISP in most cases is buying a service from BT Wholesale and selling on to the ISP's customer with some extra margin added. Openreach manages the infrastructure and provisions the service. The ISP provides some basic technical support with broadband settings etc usually only for their router and acts as a go between via the customer and Openreach for faults that require escalation beyond 1st or 2nd line support.

I'm on that package, and might be moving in the next few months. Damn. :(
