*** The Official Destiny Thread (now includes 2.0 and TTK) ***

I only really used Thorn for a few matches last IB....did pretty good with it. I prefer Hawkmoon though. I think I'm going to give Fang of Ir Yut and Queenbreaker's Bow combo a go next time round though.

I think all hand cannons are a touch OP in the Crucible. This is shown by just how many of the top players use them. I wouldn't say that one is head and shoulders above the others though. I rotate between Thorn, Hawkmoon and The Last Word, depending on my mood and the map, and my KD is fairly consistent across all 3 of them. My personal favourite is Hawkmoon simply because that ultra-rare one shot kill is a thing of beauty.

I need to start using Mida in PvP more I think. In some of the longer range maps where snipers rule I think the extra stagger effect it has will be really useful.

MIDA was my main PvP weapon for a long time. I eventually switched over to Red Death once they buffed Pulse Rifles, but I've recently switched over to Thorn to try and improve with it. I find I play more defensively with Thorn, often popping out of cover and firing off a couple shots, then popping back in.

People who say it's a "noob" weapon or using it is "cheesing" is a bit ridiculous. When I hear that I think that person isn't very good, but rather than admit that, they try to bring other people down. I'm not very good. I'm very much average, but I completely recognise the skill involved in using Thorn, Last Word, or any other weapon.

I like TLW but I always forget it's an auto-fire... Looking forward to getting my hands on a hawkmoon one day

last word is a noobs weapon it takes no skill to use IMO. hawkmoon is the true skillers hand cannon where you actually have to pick your shots and aim properly. thorn is far too powerful for what it is and another noobs weapon, the burn or range needs to be nerfed on it.

Not sure if trolling. You have to aim properly with every weapon, you have hit headshots, especially with hand cannons. You think that people are just body shotting you with Thorn?

no way should someone be able to hit you in the head from 30 feet away without aiming and just spamming the trigger. it should be a lot more unstable than what it is especially since your not aiming it and spamming the trigger all the time.

There are no killcam's. Do you really think cross-map hip fire spam is killing you? For all you know that person hit 4 clean head shots while ADS. Hawkmoon clearly beats it at range, you know that.

if you want to get good at pvp though the gun i would recommend practicing with is hawkmoon. it takes real skill to use as you need to aim and you need to aim for the head to win encounters.

GG, when does this realistically not apply for Destiny PvP / FPS games?

if you want to win by exploiting the mechanics then run thorn, sniper with final round and a rocket launcher with tracking and horseshoes. i think i'm just peeved i never got into sniping in PVP before. having one of those snipers now would be like taking candy from a baby.

This isn't some kind of cheat mode that instantly makes you a PvP god. It's a logical set up for the Destiny PvP environment. Exotic Hand cannons are the best PvP primaries (this happens in lot of FPS games - there are always strong weapons that the majority will use). The high impact snipers with final round, while cheap in Trials, are hardly game breaking in normal PvP. As for the rest, of course people will roll good perks onto weapons - Shot Package for Shotguns, Grenades and Horseshoes for Rockets etc. Do you expect everyone to use "non exploited" weapons?

Tend to agree, while it takes skill using them they are lethal. I wouldnt say one is better than the other, just depends on the situation. Thorns perk is very useful though...

In other words expect them to be nerfed :p

ps3ud0

i use thorn btw in fact i got a 9-0 on my first attempt in trials at the weekend there using it.

1 of the games i had a 5+ k/d ratio in trials.

if you look at my overall stats though they are pretty average that is because i don't care about stats, i actually play very aggressively and try and capture points i know i don't stand much chance of capturing when playing with randomers and in iron banner. i play for fun not for stats.

those with good stats usually don't bother capturing points they let the 5 others on the team do them whilst they stand back and mop up kills. i could play like that and sometimes i do on some maps where i run to B capture it then sit back and defend it. otherwise you lose the game if you don't.

i think i got 35 kills on a game yesterday whilst doing the fusion rifle bounty (a gun which has been nerfed).

i'm not a pro player but i'm not exactly a noob. i would definitely say i'm above average skill wise in pvp.

explain how using a gun like the last word, where you don't have to aim down the sights on a handgun. can rapidly shoot 7 bullets with next to zero feedback/pull up from the gun is not a noobs weapon? it's also completely devastating at mid range. that type of gun should either have massive stability issues or be useless at anything beyond 15 feet. the gun just doesn't make any sense.

thorn is a noobs weapon because of the burn. take the burn away and it would take skill to use. with the the burn all you need to do is shoot them a few times and wait for them to die. or hit them once pop into cover and through a nade over in their general direction.

my current loadouts are

thorn
red death
hawkmoon

one of the above as primary depending on map

felwinters lie
praedyths revenge

one of the above depending on the map

i then have gauntlets with fast reload for pulse rifle and another for hand cannon
i then use boots or chest which gives more ammo for my weapons.
4 golden guns on hunter but i don't really have an exotic pvp for my warlock. i think purifier robes will be good for normal pvp as a sunsinger. the fast revive for trials as a novabomber.

They're not "noob" guns simply because they still take some skill to use. TLW and Thorn won't instantly turn a poor player into a good one. They're top tier guns and will certainly be very effective for a poor player to use, but a poor player with Thorn is still a poor player. A poor player with Thorn will still get beaten by a good player using virtually any weapon, simply because of the skill difference.

You complain about noob guns yet you use Thorn and Felwinters Sniper? Irony much?

that's because they are OP compared to others so obviously i'm gonna use them.

before the last round of nerfs i used to solely use vex and red death, never used handguns at all. the last patch made me switch to hawkmoon and thorn.

also felwinters is a shotgun not a sniper. the sniper is called idiots spear ;)

praedyths is the sniper i use

WHOOSH!!

I know very well what Felwinters is. My comment was obviously in relation to how OP it is with the correct perks on it.

The Last Word is definitely a noob weapon because I was using it. LMAO. All you have to is connect with the first hit and the auto aim will then take over and guide the rest of the magazine when you hold the trigger.

Yes it is a shotgun often nicknamed Felwinter's sniper due to its kill range.

idiots spear is a new one..

Hah, I'd like to play against people who stand stationary enough for the auto aim to track them. All I seem to play against are blinking hunters with shotguns.

That's what I mean though. People were running across my field of view and you could literally feel the aiming pulling your sights to keep them on target. I was amazed at some of the shots I got. They defied belief on some occasions.

That's not just The Last Word though, the game in general has fairly generous auto aim. With the way it can spray though, TLW is definitely set up to take advantage of it. Suros used to be the same before the nerf.

The simple fact is that there are always going to be top tier weapons that out perform others. Calling them noob guns just seems wrong in my eyes, because they don't instantly make poor players into good ones. The only way to get consistently better stats in PvP is the way I did it - play a ton of games and get better at it. I sucked when I first started playing PvP, but I pumped a fair bit of time into it, learnt the maps, and improved. I feel like a benefit to a team now, not a hinderance, and none of that is down to the gun I use. It's the person using the gun that matters.

Yeah, that's the first time I've ever heard Efrideet's Spear referred to as Idiot's Spear, and I spend a ton of time on the Destiny Reddit where most of the pet names in the game come from. Sonny in making stuff up shocker? :D

oh yeah the persons own skill level matters as well as the gun.

one thing i don't understand is how can they now no longer release final round snipers?

so some people have the most OP sniper in the game yet everyone else no longer can?

why didn't they nerf them all by changing their perks? if they are no longer going to allow such a weapon to be reforged then why let those that have one keep it?

that doesn't sound very fair at all. that sniper with final round is ridiculous. it's not a fair fight. you have to aim for the head and they have to aim for your chest. it's a HUGE advantage.

Could you imagine the backlash if they changed the Final Round perk on all the guns people already have? There would be absolute mayhem on all forms of social media. Bungie are stuck because they know it's an OP perk when abused, but they can't really get rid of it. I think that might be why they introduced the Hidden Hand perk, which gives you better aim assist. It makes it a lot easier to land head shots which effectively counters Final Rounds.

i've never seen anyone not abusing the perk now.

even yesterday in normal crucible i get 3-5 kills in the first minute with praedyths. some noob switches his loadout and final rounds me a couple of times in a row before i realise what he's doing.

they either need to remove it from all snipers or let people reforge it on theirs. if they don't then it's a horrible mismatch. the backlash of the community that it's no longer available has been strong i would have thought.

they can nerf vex (an exotic) into the ground yet they can't some iron banner legendary?

either remove it or let everyone have it. letting some people have it is just ridiculous.

Social media != the majority of people that play the game.

Besides that, plenty of weapons have been hit with the nerf bat, people cried when Suros was nerfed, people cried when Vex was nerfed. They'll get over it.
