At work today, I was happily washing my hands with hot soapy water when a bloke came out of the toilet cubicle and walked straight out. He didn't even entertain the idea of washing his hands, just walked straight out the room.

A few seconds later, another bloke came out of a cubicle and briefly ran his hand under some cold water than shook it off, walking straight out.

Am I the only person who thinks this is really gross and always uses soap after going to the toilet, particularly in an office environment? Is there actually any reason why people don't wash their hands or use soap, apart from having poor personal hygiene?

Yeah, it's sick. Quite a high chance i'll have to shake someone's hand in my line of work, so yeah.

How anyone could not wash their hands after a no. 2 is beyond me. Beyond wrong.

Gotta admit when I was younger on nights out, I often didn't wash my hands after a pee with the thought my hands would probably end up somewhere worse later in the evening. lol

Disgusting. That's why I keep a bottle of hand gel with me at all times and use it after shaking hands with anyone.

Yes, I wash them every time I go to the toilet. I don't make a habit of weeing on my hand or anything, just seems like an opportune time to do it.

I guess either the idea simply doesn't enter their conciousness or they deem it unnecessary effort.

You know you contaminated your hands anyway by using the same door handle to open the door that they probably left traces of pee on?

Urine is sterile, so whilst not nice isn't really going to do you much harm. Faeces on the other hand is different.

Seems about 60% of people don't bother from my experience - I don't go mad but I always try to keep (atleast) basic good hygiene/cleanliness as a consideration to others (sadly not something a good number seem to care about).

When I worked at Morrisons with fresh food etc, I hated it when I saw another member of staff walk out the toilets without washing their hands. I stopped them and told them to wash or be disciplined. It's a high health risk with fresh food handlers.

Same at the pub. The amount of people walking out without washing is unbelievable. I don't stop then but I make sure I open the door with out using my hands, now I have a baby I have to be extra careful. (he is not and won't be wrapped in cotton wool. I just don't want other people **** on my kid)

We issue all staff with a bottle of hand gel to keep at their desks for this reason, especially when there's the occassional shared system or contractors in.

All bathroom doors should open from the inside out. Not so you have to pull a door handle to get out the joint.

Especially in food restaurants. I always wonder if the cooks have used tissue paper to open the door, as I do. I very much doubt it.

There needs to be a law in place which says public toilet doors need to be open at all times. A staggered wall type of thing is perfect.

I always end up in a situation where I'm balancing on one foot trying to get my other foot under the door handle trying to yank it hard enough so I can swiftly exit without it hitting me.
