Hello,

Making a new build and wondering what the best 2011 gaming motherboard would be to run the Intel i7 5930k and SLI 980Ti's? Around the £200 mark, give or take.

Thanks in advance.

SOC Champion is the best.

It has multiple world records at HWbot.

Only four dimm slots but these are moved closer to the socket for better memory latency and performance.

The MSI boards will let you run 4xpcie 3.0 on the M2 SSD slot. With the gigabyte you won't get full speed on the Samsung M2 drives as it's only 4x pcie 2.0

I know you haven't mentioned using an M2 SSD but if you do plan to in the future it's something to think about.

Ahh right, I wasn't planning on using them but I may in the future. I'm not the biggest overclocker to be honest, would that make the SOC Champion a little redundant if I don't use Al the features?

You'll get full speed on a normal M2 SSD but if you go for one of the really fast ones you won't get full speed due to the limitation of PCIE 2.0 on the M2 slot on the gigabyte board.

Have a look at this link.

I went for the "MSI X99S SLI / 5930K / 16Gb ram" bundle when I upgraded.

The X99A SLI Plus is slightly better than mine for only an extra £10. It's £179.99

So if I'm not planning on using the M2 slots the Champion is still the better choice out the two?

I've also been looking at the Asus X99-A, is this a good board?

Apart from the fact it's bettered by MSI's entry level x99 board?
I'd constantly be asking myself what else they've scrimped on.

Pretty sure the Asus boards do 32G/s on theirs too.

Is buying a mobo with USB 3.1 a deal clincher? What tech is going to need the benefits of the extra bandwidth over USB 3.0? I've noticed that OCuk seem to be stocking less 3.1 models, compared to competitors (besides the MSI models).

Is it still the case that getting a mobo with an Intel network, rather than another brand such as Killer, still desirable?

Is there a massive variance in the quality of onboard sound modules between X99 mobos?

The best X99 board bar none is Gigabyte Champion.

Your a gamer you care most about GPU efficiency in single card or SLI. The Gigabyte is massively efficient. It also gives you highest CPU and memory clocking.

Finally the onboard sound is decent also so its not effecting your gaming experience in this department.
