Is it just me, or is BBC iPlayer rubbish?

I've got 40Mb broadband but still iPlayer buffers constantly, no issues with YouTube, downloads, etc. but iPlayer continues to buffer.

The only thing I can think of is that it is a BBC issue, or an issue between my ISP (TalkTalk) and the BBC.

This seems to be quite common?

Sometimes I've found it differs depending on what device I use. For me it works on pretty much everything, but I've got 152mb internet.

40mb should be bundles though.

Did you put something naughty in the thread title? How rude :p

EDIT: I also find iPlayer buffers when everything else is fine. Never any issues with Netflix, STV player, 4od etc,

It's most likely your ISP. iPlayer has always been fine for me.

I know some ISPs have local CDN nodes for these types of services, not sure if Talk Talk is one of them but it's an awful company anyway.

it's technically P2P and some ISPs throttle P2P during peak times. I'm on Zen and have no such issues.

4od web player is terrible for me. It seems to crap out completely or buffer once every minute or so.
Hate it.

Same here, it's like watching a mangled pirate VHS tape, BBC iPlayer in comparison has always been pretty good.

I remember Virgin used to have caching issues with YouTube, but now it is mostly down to peasant scum going online after school to cut&paste their homework.

I've not noticed any problems.
But I think my ISP is one of the ones that has direct peering/BBC Iplayer content servers at the ISP.

If you get an iPlayer downloader application even that is limited in it's download speed. I can stream YouTube at 60Mbit/Sec+ but iPlayer will only ever give me 20Mbit/Sec tops.

I much prefer to pre-downlaod it and watch it from the Disk Drive, it avoids the hassle of annoying buffering.

I also think iPlayer is **** but I've never had buffering issues. The quality on the iPlayer website is terrible even with the "HD" turned on.

In my experience, the highest quality iPlayer streams come through Virgin Media's TV boxes, but then their app is unstable as hell if you can get something to play in the first place.
