my council is charging £35 a year to collect garden waste. I know it's not a significant amount of money, but seeing as I already pay £2k council tax, I'm a little bit miffed that I'm being charged for this as well, when I may only use the service a few times a year.

Is this a nationwide thing?

Yep, but I heard on this forum that you can legally dump green waste on any field. How true that is I've no idea....like I said, heard it on here from someone

South Hams council provides a brown wheelie bin (normal size) which is used for compost and garden waste. They collect it fortnightly.

We have a brown bin for garden waste and food waste.
A green for plastics and card and paper and tins and foil.
And a blue.black for general waste.

Each collected fortnightly.
Surcharge to collect additional when they already get double the old rates for providing services it a bit of a joke.

We've been charged for a few years now. A wheelie bin or three reusable sacks with a fortnightly collection.

My Mum in Havering NE London pays about £30 (reduced rate) for a bi weekly green/gardening waste collection from a full size wheely bin.

She doesn't drive. I think its a fantastic deal.

If you only use it a few times for you then its not for you is it? Drive to the dump with bootfulls of hedge clippings. Simples.

That's disgraceful, (to Janesy)

Our bin men seem to be horribly selective about emptying the bin as well. Perfectly good bins are just left randomly unemptied while the next doors neighbours are. So they are probably asking me to pay for a service which won't be delivered adequately anyway.

I heard some guy say that if you hold your breath fro longer than 30 seconds you'll die!

Both are a load of crap.

Happened in my area last year - basically allowed the council to say they haven't put up council tax this year as the garden waste charge is 'optional'. Loads of people are tearing up their lawns and putting down patios as a result, which is just what this country needs to help manage its flooding problem
