Charged for garden waste

Good old Ealing are charging us £60 per year at the moment which is a 50% rise on last years service.
But at least they froze the council tax though...
 
Durham used to be free. Charge came in this year - I can't remember what it is but £50 rings a bell, or they did a three year deal.

I, like most, now put my garden waste in a black bag and it goes in with the general waste.

Will end up costing the council MORE because of the increase in landfill waste. Such a stupid policy.
 
35 odd quid a year from msdc then after filling all the forms and setting up a direct debit they then tell us there's no more bins or capacity and I'm on a waiting list.
 
£25 per year for a fortnightly brown bin collection here in Nottinghamshire. Far more convenient and less messy than tip runs.
 
£35 a year here in sunny Cornwall for fortnightly brown bin collections. Has been for many years now.

We're pretty glad of this; it was a PITA to burn it or tip it before they started this up. The price is reasonable, we feel. And our lot are really good - if you have too much to fit in the bin one week they will take the extra if it's bagged up alongside.

Yep. I work as a "Technical Advisor" in the Recycling and Waste department for for a local authority and we started charging for a garden waste a few years ago. There is an exception which is people on benefits who get a brown bin for free (this was quite controversial and many people, like me, wanted the free ones to go to pensioners rather than people who don't even pay CT in many cases).

We currently charge £44 a year.

The Council Tax bill only covers the cost of collecting your general waste bin, the rest either subsidised by our commercial arm and by recycling credits. Legally councils have no responsibility to collect any type of wast other than your general waste as well.

What many people don't realise when they say "I already pay xxxx for my CT" is that only a tiny fraction of it goes to pay for waste collections. The majority goes on social housing and social care.

Our residents pay less than a £1 a week out of the Council Tax for their bin collections which is amazing value. A private company who offer domestic waste collections charge £10 per collection so you can see that £35 a year really isn't that much for what you're getting.

It still amazes me how people will willingly pay £3 to £5 to have an item delivered from OCUK and Amazon but then are so quick to moan about essentially the reverse service costing pennies.

Hedge trimmings won't compost for years. Stuff you cut with loppers rather than secateurs.

Compost bins are for grass mowing, food waste, the odd bit of cardboard, etc. Proper garden waste will just sit in your compost bin stubbornly going nowhere fast ;)
 
I don't pay anything extra for garden waste but I do pay quite a bit more than £2k a year to the council already (Camden).
