Ferrari 488 GTB revealed. 458 Successor

Came out in '09 I believe. So been around about as long as the 430 was before being replaced by it. And about as long as the 360 was around before the 430 replaced it. And about as long as the 355 was around before the 360 replaced it ;)

Must just be me getting old then :p. I could swear it came out in '11 or '12!

A necessary evil these days but turbo cars sound cack compared to N/A. Watch the prices of the last N/A 458's especially the Speciale skyrocket.

I like the look of it though, maybe not quite as much as the 458.

More power and more torque with less fuel... Ill gladly sacrifice a bit of screaming exhaust note for technological progress, thanks :p

Let's be real..... What person (in the market for a car like this) cares about MPG?

Define ludicrous?

In your experience do you think it makes the car undrivable or in any way demeans it?

:D

I was watching Chris Harris' vid of the F40 and F50 round Anglesey at the weekend, he didn't seem to be hampered by lag....

** For the second time of asking please don't hotlink images **

from the article:
Unlike most other carmakers, Ferrari hosts exclusive events for select customers to reveal its new models, and one of those took place yesterday for the world premiere of the 488 GTB.

All the reviews so far are a bit "meh". The reviewers all seem pretty bored. I think Ferrari have pretty much reached the limits now. OK, so the 488 is faster than the 458....which already had more performance than 99.9% of people could use. Now it's just numbers. It's like upgrading from a video card that can play a game at 140fps to one that plays it at 180fps.

I can't wait for the "tech" backlash. Betcha in 20 years you'll be able to buy a Ferrari with a manual box and no computers.

What a load of tosh. Turbo's can sound fantastic. I am sure they have done a brilliant job of it as well.

They can... but the 488 sounds muffled... it's the worst sounding Ferrari in history... like the M4... they somehow managed to destroy the noise with the turbos :(

Its a shame that given the emissions regulations that turbos now need to be installed, But are Ferrari able to continue to produce naturally aspirated cars? Even just one, given the caps that the EU have imposed?

Howdto Lamborghini get away without having to fit turbos?

Will Lamborghinis go turbocharged to meet new emissions regs?

Very possibly, but only in the longer run, according to Reggiani, who spent eight years at Bugatti and five at Maserati before he joined Lambo two decades ago.

‘I think that a naturally aspirated engine is the best for our super-sports cars,’ the tech chief told CAR. ‘It’s what our customers want.

‘But if we have to react to legislation and, for example, taxation for high-capacity cars in the Far East, then - yes - we can react and go the turbocharged route if we have to.’

When pushed about a timeframe, he answered: ‘It would be about four years or so away.’

Get your Huracáns in now...

It's sad to think that one day, the glorious sound of a V10 will be heard no more (at least on new cars) :(

Its a shame to think that potentially performance cars wont be on the roads in 10-20 years. With the various companys working on cars that self drive, and general over population and whether you have a performance car, there will be very limited times to use them. The world is over populated, however thats discussion for another thread. :)

Because Audi are much larger than the fiat group. Their emmisions as a whole is a lot lower because they make more /sell more efficient cars than fiat.

Aston Martin is a good example. They only released that iq thing to lower overall emmisions rating. This gave them the green light to continue making NA powered cars.

Chris Harris seems to think the car is awesome with literally no lag at all
