Which is the quietest make of 390 or 390x?

I know these cards have not been around long enough for precise testing - but based on the 290/290x versions, which one of the Asus direct CU II, gigabyte G1 gaming, HIS ice Q, msi twin Frozr, sapphire tri x, Xfx DD black etc on sale through OcUK is likely to be the quietest? I'm not especially interested in overclocking the card to within an inch of its life - just want it to run like a whisper. From what I've seen the tri-x by virtue of its three fans runs cooler and quieter than the others. Is that right?
Also I have a Corsair HX620w psu (more than 5 years old but still running well) - do people think it's sufficient? I currently have a gtx 660 so a 300 series is going to be an exciting step up for me. Thanks for your advice.

Would think the MSI frozr version will be in with a shout of being the quietest.

Thanks for the replies. Tri x seems to be a good choice - with an 8 Pack recommendation no less! And it just so happens to be in stock with OcUK ;)

On the OCUK website the 390 version is called the nitro, but Tomshardware says it has the same cooler as the 390x tri x.

I think I'll be going for the plain 390.

can anyone confirm i'll be alright with 620w psu? I've seen the recommended is 750w but people say a 650w can power a 290x system....

I've decided to go with an upgraded PSU

Either the SuperFlower Golden Green HX 750W "80 Plus Gold" or the Antec TruePower Classic 750w '80 Plus Gold'.

I'm asking for opinions as to which is the quieter/more reliable over in the PSU forums if anyone has some comments...

The SuperFlower one is a very solid and reliable PSU, absolutely worth the price. But in all honesty you don't need to upgrade your PSU, they have very long lives and the Corsair you have is in no way gonna let you down.

Sapphire, I don't know what the Twin Frozer V is like but the Twin Frozer IV did a poor job on my 290x as did the Asus DCUII which they seem to have used again on the 390/390x.

I'd avoid MSI and Asus based on there last gen efforts and go for Sapphire as they seem to make the effort due to being an AMD only company. Recycling coolers from other ranges can often be problematic.
I suppose you can at least give MSI a point for recycling the TFIV over from Nvidia's newest range, Asus need a point deducted considering they haven't even gone with the DCUIII/Strix at this point and instead stayed with the cooler that gave so many people heat issues on the 290/290x.

No it is not, why would you say that? The HX series is utter junk with a whole lot of Capxon capacitors, making it your average Chinese PSU absolutely not recommended to anyone under any circumstances, seeing how there are plenty of much better options available.

The MSI gaming looks fatter than the 290x version they might have learned some lessons from the previous attempt with this chip. I wonder if there will be a lightning 390x ? IMO the lightning was the best, would be interesting to know if there is one in the pipeline before hitting an order?

I am sure lightning will come a bit later. If you want a really quiet set up go custom water or use an AIO unit. Had a GTX 580 PNY liquid cool, the AIO really tamed the noisy heat machine. Never saw it go past 55 and the fan on the radiator was constantly running on low-moderate speed.

Thanks for the replies. Embarrassed to say (here on Overclockers!) that I don't really want to go down the water-cooled route so sticking with the quietest air-cooled I can find. Going to need to mod my case a bit to get the tri-x in, so would have preferred a two fan solution but it seems the MSI is not universally loved.

And after Poneros comment I will probably see if my Corsair 620 can handle my new gpu. If not, will order up an Antec as the Superflower seems to have some negativity attached to it.

I haven't actually ordered anything yet - will see if there are any other helpful posts before pushing the button on it at the end of the week. And I am also flip-flopping over adding an Asus MG279Q IPS 1440p freesync monitor to my order, but put off by the mixed experiences being reported over at the monitor forum.

Gah... analysis paralysis....

The SuperFlower is a good PSU

If you are referring to that HX-series unit mentioned above, no it isn't. Any PSU with predominantly Capxon capacitors is not "good" by any measurable parametric. Super Flower are riding the good name of Golden Green, as the old Golden Greens were solid, trustworty units; this new HX-series has nothing in common with them except the name.

These days, if you want a Super Flower PSU, it's pretty much the Leadex series or forget about it.
