R9 390 8GB or GTX 970 4GB

At 1080p the single 970 I had ran everything I threw at it including GTA V very well! I have since gone up to 1440p and added a second card which probably isn't really needed for most games but meh.

At 1080p it is remarkable what you can get away for gaming on.

Stoner81.

If you are talking about the 390 non X it is only slightly faster out the box, matching a 290x for performance, but the extra memory might help in future.
Also depends on the games you play.

I game in 1080p but would like to upgrade to 1440p by the end of the year, i would be going with the non X version

so i'll go with the 8GB 390, any recommended make i should buy?

thanks for the reply s btw

VSR/DSR. The monitors resolution question is becoming obsolete due to this but to be fair to you EasyRider, it's not like everyone uses it so it's still relevant :).

VSR is crap, it doesn't even go to full 4k on the 290x! Only the 285 and the new cards get full 2160p! :(

I have only used DSR but even using a 290X at 1440p @ 120/144Hz on a 1080p monitor would be a(n) improvement although 4K is the most sought after resolution for high end gaming.
