The *Official* Eve Online Thread

I always want to play Eve and I've started several times with friends from other MMO's and usually get stuck in the rut of mission running and then just get bored with it all an quit.

Friends don't let friends mission run!

In all seriousness, missions are pointless imo. It's playing an (extremely limited) single player game in a mmo universe. I wouldn't play it as a single player game, so I wouldn't waste subscription money on it. I might run the odd one if I need isk, but they don't eve pay all that well.

Some ideas of things to do that are more engaging/social and less boring:

PVE:

-Wormholes. High risk, high reward, working as a team. Easy for new players to get involved (bring a drake or a noctis)
-Incursions. Zero risk, high reward, high chance of ultra neckbeard levels of autism. Can be a high barrier to entry due to neckbeardism - e.g. "you need to spend x billion isk or train this skill for 45 days to get an extra 2% dps or gtfo"

PvP:
-Wormholes
-RvB (Red Vs Blue)
-Faction warfare
-Nullsec alliance (good one, not a renter)
-Brave Newbies

All should be fairly easy access (e.g. frigate with basic fit) and a willingness to learn. I'd personally go for RvB or Brave as they should be the most chilled out and most accepting of **** ups.

Misc:
-Join Eve Uni for a bit

Just seen some of the incoming changes... lols so glad I don't play any more... why can't they spend time adding content instead of making changes for changes sake...

So much of its artificial or arbitrary/contrived limits due to bad game design it makes my head hurt just to read it.

So, my naga is about 19 days or so away from being fully T2 fitted. Went for the railguns path as i have always liked the look of naga/rokh's at the back of fleets popping shots off at people haha:D

I have seen a few videos of incursions? this seems to be slightly PVE related if i am not mistaken?

These look pretty fun to be honest, could anyone let me know what are the minimum requirements for incursions, are they still widely done by people? and how do i get into a group of people doing them as a sniper naga?

Thanks

From what I remember (which is very little) incursions are entirely PVE and just a way of grinding ISK.

As for joining them, there are chat rooms you join where people advertise what they're looking for in their fleets. I don't really remember what the requirements are and I'm sure its changed by now. I used to run them in a T3 Legion.

My knowledge of them is about 2 years out of date but when I last had anything to do with them they'd ended up like you get in other games where unless you were running one of a small number of highly specific builds for max efficiency no one wants you in their fleet and if you try to do them more casually you'll always lose a contested site.

Could probably solo (multi box) them with the setup I've got but never got around to testing it.

What specifically?

It wasn't in response to any one specific change... but I've just been reading through the fleet warp changes threads lol...

Incursions are PVE only. They are predominately shield tanked. They are run usually very efficiently by well skilled characters running Nightmares and Machariels with Logi support. Most of the good communities will stipulate expensive fits ie pure faction as a minimum. The ones that are more forgiving will not be able to compete with them on sites - teams are effectively racing against each other at busier times and the T2 fleet will lose to the deadspace/faction one. Also to remember that the quality of the Fleet Commander and the Tagger (person who calls targets) will be better in a better fleet you are more likely to get good logi too so you don't get popped. Incursions are sometimes better started as a logistics pilot to get to grips with them.

The other thing I will say - you know those obnoxious nullsec types who bemoan highsec and carebears - the toxic types generally found in the likes of goonswarm - well Incursions are largely populated by their alts. You'll never come across a more odd and autistic community in my opinion in EVE. Just a warning. You are better off making your money elsewhere tbh.

Hi guys, I used to play EvE, and did a little googling to see if I can get a few days trial, but using my old account so I have my isk/ships and what not.

Is the "recall" programme still running?
I can start a new trial under a new account but would realy prefer to give it a try on my original account, so can someone send me a referall/recall invite so I can add a few days to my old account?

If such a thing is still possible...
Thanks

Check the Account Management section of the Eve online website. There will be an "offer" section I think. You just missed out on 3 months for price of 2 for players returning, so another offer will be along soon.

Confirming that incursion bears are literally the worst.

I see they are trying more and more desperate ways to balance the Ishtar while causing more and more collateral damage to things unrelated to the Ishtar "problem" and also don't seem to see that the alternatives are so mundane that even removing the Ishtar entirely wouldn't really encourage people to use them so its not surprising people rush to the Ishtar over them.

Ha ha! I've not been near an Eve thread for years but popped in today to see what was happening.

Same old happy Rroff spreading cheer throughout New Eden. :D

How's things guys?

Its a pitty how dead wormholes are for pvp these days, you can roll for hours and not see a thing. Perhaps CCPs plan to remove the need to scan down wormholes will get more players in but tbh I think it'll pretty much break how they were designed and perhaps most folks will just leave.

Hey, think most of the old TXSI crowd has quit or gone inactive including myself.

Active player count seems to be on a declining trend in general and after the mass based changes and the increase in WH connectivity with the new systems, etc. it doesn't really seem to have recovered.

Yep, I know the old trope EVE is dying has been said before many times but I think now it is.

The sad thing is rather than have built up a warchest of funds from the good times CCP have blown all their cash on Dust and Valkyrie and other stupid projects that have not netted them a return significant to take them forwards and to be able to make new projects or even EVE 2.

It was a shame WiS came the same time as monoclegate because in all likelihood WiS may have offered them the opportunity to take the game forward.

I keep trying to be active. But I'm just extremely lazy at the moment and as everyone knows you get out what you put into Eve. So all I'm really doing currently is practice for Alliance Tournament.

A lot of my corp are moving over to null to play for a bit, probably going to follow since there's some more activity that way.

Well after six years of game time (5 actual play) I have cancelled my subscription

With most of the people I started with, have now moved over to star citizen, I don't have the same experience as once before.

Time for me to find something else to get stuck into.
