'Mini Ice age' UK - Scaremongering?

There's going to be a drought and a hosepipe ban before you know it!
You heard it here first!

It would do if global warming wasn't a made up load of old cobblers made up by a few scientists looking to make a few quid.

I suppose you think it makes more sense that hundreds of thousands of scientists are all part of some massive global conspiracy to make up an incredibly detailed theory in order to make some money. But, please, if you have solid evidence that debunks the Scientific Consensus on climate change then do go ahead and publish your findings in the journal Nature.

Hundreds of thousands scientists! Really??? No 100,000+ scientists, link or pic? I don't even know if there is that many in the world.

otherwise bull!

Just as a matter of interest, what proportion of those scientists are employed as part of various countries public sector organisations.

(He who pays the piper calls the tune and all that!)

(And yes, I am fully aware that other commercial interests will have their own mercenary scientific warriors too, But, at the end of the day, Governments will have the most resources to squander on them and therefore will have access to the majority of them)

woohoo... we might actually get some proper snow in winter, it's been a good 20 years since I last saw a decent snow covering in winter, all we seem to get these days is these little flurries that last all of a few hours, not even enough for a decent snowman.

2010 was the best I seen in recent times, 2 weeks 6inch -2 in the day.
Time before that was 1978-79 if I recall 6 inch deep for a good few weeks. ;)

Be careful what you wish for!

Back In the dark ages when I was young (Sixties) . Several foot of snow lying for days or even weeks was not uncommon. And yet life went on!

Nowadays 2" of snow and everything grinds to a halt!

(I refer to the winters a couple of years ago)

I really fear for what would result from a winter like 1963/4

(I really do believe it would be a national catastrophe with massive economic damage and tens of thousands dead. Just do a google on winter 1963 and think about how you would cope with a month below zero, feet of snow, and no electricity!)

Stories from my mother and grandmother will back this up! Spot on. ;)

I'm on east coast so we don't seem to get hit as hard where we are due to the coastal winds etc, you northern lot seem to get it a little more often :p

This is the bit that gets me, if places like Finland/Sweden/Norway etc can manage fine in cold weather without the roads falling to pieces and infrastructure just collapsing why can't we... we're meant to be a first world country lol. It's even funnier when you think in the olden days the roads were actually just fine after the cold weather, we've still got potholes from over a year ago when we had them cold frosty morning/nights. :o

As to it being another winter like 1963 - We all know that the odds of the quality news reporting from DM being anywhere near accurate means it will likely be no more than a days worth of snow, just enough time for a snowman lol

Because they do a short sighted cheap repair job... then end up repairing them a lot more often at a lot more cost than if they actually did it proper in the first place and they'd last 10 years before needing any major work :S instead of looking ropey in a year.

We usually get real snow every 4-5 years. The past few winters have been tame, so it wouldn't surprise me if this winter is a cold one. Summer months have been pretty mild so far too.

I'd say more than a good chance summer still hasn't started in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Probably going to be one short summer.
I'm not sure we've even been above 15c yet

We've had a lovely 25 - 28c down here in the south. Screw you northerners, us southerners are having a lovely summer :D
