Opinions on this Suzuki Wagon R

I have got the Yaris and some noob questions.

On closer inspection at home, I noticed a small chip in the windscreen. Who's responsibility is to get it fixed? The place I bought it from or if mine should Mrs Tosno make a claim on her insurance for auto glass to fix it or better to pay out of my own pocket?

On the MOT advisories it says the nearside rear shock absorber has a light misting of oil, what's that and do I need to do anything about it?

And

O/s/r brake slight bind, what's that and do I need to do anything about it?

The windscreen I'd just claim from insurance, its usually only £25 for a chip

Binding calipers tell them to fix it, the shock I'd inspect the actual unit and see if it's been replaced, if not you might want to moan about noticing it knocking...

I really hate to say this given that you have followed everyones advice but I honestly think you have been had with this one...... Theres simply no way that car was worth £2000. It seems to be priced at the absoulte top end for the best example you could get despite the fact it's about the lowest spec model they made in the Yaris.

For the same money you could have had one 18 months newer, with 10,000 less miles on the clock, a considerably better spec, better engine, and less previous owners.

That aside, I wouldn't be hugely happy with those MOT advisories (especially as earlier you mention it had none?). The misting of oil could indiacte that the shock absorber is starting to fail and will likely need replacing (which ideally should be done in pairs pushing up the cost). The binding brake could be as simply as the caliper needing adjusting, or as costly as it needing a new caliper. Given what you paid for it I'd be pretty adament with the garage that these are the kind of things that should be taken care of by them. But given nothing has actually failed yet I'm not sure how you would argue that.

In terms of whether they need doing, the shock, probably not, until it actually does fail. The brake, yes, I'd say so. Depending on the level of the bind it will be huting your MPG / performance potentially quite considerably.

I feel I have been had with the car now I got it home, £2000 to go back to the 90s with wind up windows, no central locking and a cassette player, now must pay £25 to fix the windscreen. Came with 10p of petrol... But I have learnt many lessons already in my first adventure into car buying and the car has its old world charms, pity £1000 overpriced for it.

The previous mot on it had none but the one they did yesterday has those ones. I will try to get the garage to fix them.

As to fixing scraches and chips in the paint work, can you recommended me a product to do that with? I want to try and make my mistake as beautiful as possible.

Shame on you all for talking him out of the Suzuki.

Nobody told him to go and buy that particular Yaris so I have no idea what point you are trying to make. The Suzuki was not a good buy either.

He doubled his budget and bought a totally different car between his last post in the thread on the topic of the Suzuki and his next saying he had bought it so how is that 'shame' on anyone here?

No shame here, while OP went for the right car he really didn't go for the right example. This one is about twice the price it should be and wouldn't touch it in T2 spec as that does indeed has wind up windows and cassette player. Hell some of the earlier models didn't even have power steering, let's hope this isn't one of those!

Oh dear, I have really been had on this car. They are really slimy. I just realised on the advert the car says it HAS central locking but it doesn't, or eletric door mirrors. I phoned up about it and they said in their small print: "The information displayed above describes the typical specification of the most recent model of this vehicle. It is not the exact specification for the actual vehicle being offered for sale which may vary." They just washed their hands of it, no one has shame any more. I'd rather of spent £800 on the wagon than wasted £1000 on the Yaris, giving my money to crooks that lead me up the garden path.

How do I know if the car has power steering?:o

This thread makes me feel so much better about my recent purchase... :D

I've learnt to avoid cheap car dealers. Best to stick with private sales or sole traders.

How did you pay for it? Credit card?

Sole traders are just as dodgy and higher number of them sell clocked cars, cheap tat bought for £50 from auction and sold for triple the amount, at least with a dealer you can properly take legal action. Most used cars on sale these days seem to be just dodgy home traders who have flooded the market.

At least it has power steering!

I paid for it on debit card since they had a 3% charge for credit cards. Do I have a case for bank charge back? or trading standards that it says it has central locking, electric mirrors and priced for such a model or does their small print cover them? It's a nice car (especially after my 2 hours of valeting) but not £2000 nice, I'd be happy for £1500 but the dealer doesn't want a gentleman agreement.

Not sure you'd have that much to stand on for it to be worth the hassle as after all you would have viewed it in person too. Could be wrong but maybe just chalk it down to experience and move on.
