Hello All

All this chatter about grahpics card has made me think about upgrading my 7950.

I game at 1080p with games like BF4 and The Witcher, would like the opportunity to move to 1440p in the future.

I was looking at the Furys but the price put me off slightly £649), would a Fury or 980ti be overkill?

I am in the exact same situation, overkill pff what is overkill ;p. I am starting to edge more towards the FuryX again after reading more into it. When you look at benchmarks between FuryX release performance vs 980TI release performance it puts a reassurance that performance will get better with newer drivers.

I'm on a 6950 and decided to go for the Fury X, even though I only game at 1080p also, I can always use their super res thing to render the games at 1440p and downscale to 1080p, that has the benefit of anti-aliasing and still running at high frame rates.

So your saying Fury over 980ti? - Ive seen the custom cards have started coming into stock now.

If you want to stay with AMD,then you might as well wait for the Fury which is being released on the 14th of July then. Having said that,it might be worth looking for some deals on an R9 290X still.

Really not fussed about make, just want a great card at a time when I have the money to spend on it :)

Same here too. Im gona wait and see how the Fury (non X) turns out before i make a decision.

My 7950 is still going strong though. Running GTA V with Textures Very High and all other setting at High except for Grass and Post FX on Normal with 2xMSAA at 1080p = solid 60fps.

Now with VSR in the modded 15.200.1040 driver, with the same settings i can turn off MSAA and run a solid 60fps at 1440p :D

7950 is still a strong card imo :)

Im just waiting for a card that can pretty much double my performance.

So wait and see how the Fury does in July.

First, thanks for the reply!

Im not up on my settings really when it comes to AA and MSAA.
What does this driver change? Is it a beta driver or should it be on my system already (I update often)

Will the Fury not just be the same as the Fury X (minus the water cooler)

I'm also running a HD7950, but have recently got a bit of an "upgrade itch".

Thought about a GTX970, but the 3.5gb issue and previous "fun" with an Nvidia card is putting me off a little.

I'm also still at 1080, so the 7950 is still doing a decent job.

I would like to future proof though, and I don't think it'll be too long before owning a 7950 will mean having to reduce the settings in some of the newer games.

The Fury X is a bit expensive for my liking (I'm more of a casual gamer), and maybe a bit OTT for 1080, so it looks like a short wait for the Fury, then maybe a bit more of a wait to see prices drop a little, maybe.

The driver is a modded driver from here http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=399956

If u use this driver make sure u follow the instructions about the dll's for VLC player. I had perf increases in the 3DMark API test with these coming from earlier drivers, not sure which one but it was a 30% increase in DX11 draw calls.

Same here, 7950 still doing the job at 1080 (not bad for a 3+ year old card!) so waiting to see what happens to prices once the Fury cards have been out for a few of months.

I currently have an XFX Ghost 7950 and have ordered one of the EVGA Superclocked currently on special and it's been shipped already (fast work OC :) ) Hoping it arrives tomorrow so I can get it installed for the weekend. Will have to spend those Raptr points before switching over :)

I currently game at 1080 but will be upgrading the rest of my system hopefully in August when Skylake comes out. I'm not sure which monitor to go for though as there's so much choice these days between 144Hz, 1440p, 3D, 4K etc etc.

I feel your pain, I like to think I keep quite upto date with "tech" but I feel so out of the loop at the moment

i upgraded from a 280x and I also have a HD 7950 to a 980 ti and I can happily say that it more than doubles the performance. I used to have the HD 7950 in crossfire but one of cards were faulty so ended up with a replacement 280x. The 980 ti beats the 280x in crossfire.
