New arrival with OcUK tomorrow, giving excellent value for a GTX965m product.

The chassis has a very high quality feel to it, with some nice design lines and details.

Space to install your own SSD (upto 512GB) if you so desire.

New chassis launching with a 4xxx CPU? Cost reasons to help keep the price low? I'm sure it will perform fine it's just an interesting decision.

Also only HDMI and vga, no display port on a new chassis, again very interesting. I guess you don't expect a 965m to be hooked up to a high res monitor.

Also since its a new chassis what about the internals? What slots are inside? What's user accessible? How easy is it for a user to give the internals a 6 month clean? Is the fan individually removable or does a user have to remove the whole heatsink assembly and repaste it to clean it?

As usual no internal shots so tbh a pointless post, if you cannot see the internals for upgrades then why would we even consider it.

The industry needs to catch up with what people want from gaming laptops. We want shot of the insides just as much as shots of the exterior!

Hi Meaker,

The chassis is new to the market yes, but was launched before 5th generation CPU's were launched. We have just been a bit slow getting this ranged with OcUK:confused:

The slots inside are:

2 x RAM slots (max support 16GB)
1 x 2.5" HDD
1 x mSATA (for installation of SSD)

The "D" cover, bottom of chassis is removable: from this image you can see the number of screws this involves:

The fan is individually removable, easily cleaned and no need to remove the whole heat sink.

Hope that helps answer your points,

Hi Atreus,

Sorry you feel it was pointless to post this, we simply wanted to announce to forum users that there is a new chassis from us, now available with OcUK.

Unfortunately our marketing team don't produce images of the internal layouts of machines, but we will see if this is feasible, and if yes, then we will.

In response you your point "the industry needs to catch up...." We believe Gigabyte have done a fairly decent job of understanding what enthusiast customers want and need, having features like:

  • easy 2 screw access to install / upgrade ram on P34, P35 and P37 Ultraforce models
  • having components such as RAM and SSD slots on the bottom side of the motherboard to enable easier access and upgrade

  • shipping products with "minimal" spec, such as just 1 x 128SSD with the O/S on, to give end users the maximum chance to customise themselves and purchase the unit for best value price
  • not having "warranty void" stickers on our machines to enable these mods to be done either by re-sellers wanting to perform upgrades, or experienced users at home.

All of the above are focussed on users like yourself, and attempting to give you more of what you want within an "off the shelf" branded product.

We of course know there is always room for improvement, and that is the nature of our business, and also why we value the opinions of forum users who can ultimately have input into our product development.

Thanks for your views and we hope that you can see that we have already made a lot of improvements to try and tune what we offer to the enthusiast market.

Sorry :p what i mean by needs to catch up is that buyers like us need to see the internals, exactly what slots are there... what the insides look like regards cooling and so on. No one it seems ever advertises these machines showing us those shots, it is left to review sites to let us see what we are dealing with.

Very few people are going to spend upwards of a grand on a gaming laptop without some careful thinking about future upgrades and so on. Even ocuk never seem to show us naked laptops with the bottoms off :P

Personally i am in the market for a new gaming laptop myself and i will have to wait for a review site to do a "strip down" review before i part with any money. External shots just do not cut it anymore.... THAT is where the industry needs to play catch up.

This new laptop looks very good actually ( from the outside ) :p
