My Dad had bikes in South Africa back in the old days that him and my Mum use to razz about out (and crash with no helmets etc :p), so I guess it's kind of in the genes.

I also use to ride my brother's moped around when I was about 12-13.

Then when I was 18 I got my first full time job and didn't want to fork out thousands for insurance on a car so bought a 125 instead & it went on from there :)

Edit
What about you wazza? You must be old enough to have been riding for 57 years or so :D

Caught the bug when I saw the fancy dash of some red sporty thing when I was a kid.
Never did anything about it until many years later I moved to a location where a vehicle is pretty much essential... and only got up to start riding because of a girl.

I had this poster on my wall in the very early 90's, maybe 91 - 92 (i must have been 4 or 5 at the time) of a white and red sports bike. I always thought it looked amazing. I can just about remember that poster to this day and that's what I believe got me hooked on bikes. No idea who got me that poster.

One of the lads at school, (1966), had an Ariel. Had a go on it and got hooked.
So got a BSA C15. Was a bit clapped out so re-built the engine. (Well, dad did most of it. I just kept giving him the hurry up. :D)
And so it started.

Friends with bikes but more specifically my mate next door buying an AR80 when he was 17, I would have been about 15, back in the early 80's.

He took me on the back down a side road, no helmets or anything, and he pulled a ****ing wheelie and I crapped myself and have never been, or given, pillion because of that since.

I suppose watching eddy kid and evil knievel as a kid had an influence,

ohh and watching streethawk religiously

@ellior that's funny

Watching Scooter and bikes pass me in traffic, public transport letting me down particularly on Sundays, being moved back into the congestion zone so couldn't drive into work and losing a bit of weight.

I'm a recent convert - I needed a way of getting to work that was faster than the train and cheaper than the car, and this part of Tron Legacy sparked my interest in the Ducati Sport classic 1000 (first bike I'd ever really noticed) and it went from there :D

I'm not entirely sure, there's certainly no stand out moment.
I do remember as a teenager deciding that I would bike at some point, promised my old man I'd wait till I had a few years experience driving.

There is a picture of me somewhere sitting on a TT bike, perhaps replica, when I was about 10. No idea where that was taken, but perhaps sparked my interest.

School, I was a country bumpkin, and everybody got peds' to get to their first job because the bus service was crap so...

My dad used to have bikes and so did his dad. When I was younger I'd have loved one but decided I'd probably kill myself on one (the way I drive cars back then I probably would have done).
Anyway, was at the pub with a mate one Sunday and he suggested the idea of us both learning. We then got ourselves to the nearest bike dealer, sat on a few Hondas and that was me sold. He got made redundant and couldn't afford a DAS so being the great friend I am I did it all with another mate...

I think it was 2012, I went on holiday to Majorca and rented a 125 moped to escape the family who just wanted to sit by a pool for a week. I had tons of fun with it but thought getting a 125 back home wouldn't be worth it.

Fast forward winter 2014 I was sick to death of getting the train to Wolverhampton and taking a bus to the station that took half an hour to travel 2 miles, so now I was old enough for the full license I just went for it and love biking as a form of transport, I find being in the car really frustrating now having to sit there in traffic.

streethawk got into bikes i was nuts about when i was a kid.
but at 19 when i had enough cash to buy a decent bike my parents talked me outta it. it wasnt until i was 33 and i met an old bloke riding the HD MT350 army bike that made realise what i was missing out on. now 2 years later having done my das im still looking for the right MT350 for me.

When I was around 5-6 my uncle took me on his bike, he even let me twist the throttle. It was a classical bike with not that much power, at first it was scary loud. Then when I was 9-10 I got a Yamaha Raptor 250 (I wanted an enduro, but my mum wouldn't let me.)

After that it was mopeds and 125's, in 10-12 months I'll hopefully ride something bigger *legally*. :D

Started out riding with my uncle at age 5. Around 6 he cut down a 50cc scooter and made it into a monkey bike....It was awesome. Then got a KX80 when I was 10. I then started competing in motocross until I hit 17 then had to sell my KXF250 for a car, which sucked but was needed.

Brought another mx bike (Rm125) at 21 and now im 24 (nearly 25) and should hopefully have my cat A road licence on the 27th of July. Then its time for the CBR600RR, I cant wait :D

Dad as i suspect is the case for a lot of us! On his bike from the age of about 6. Helped him tinker with his bikes and come the age I could get a license I did the test on my birthday!

I despise sitting in traffic on my commute home, that's about it really :p

Just so happens its bloody good fun too.
