Activated charcoal to get rid of smoke smell in a room?

activated charcoal works by pulling air or water through it, the particles get trapped inside the charcoal.

by it self it doesn't magically absorb smells

paint the room, shake and vac the carpet or spray tons of febreeze to disguise any smell from the carpet

you can get ones that emit UV particles or whatever, ionizers ? but at the level they need to destroy smells it's supposedly unsafe for human exposure
The potential danger with this is that humans don't usually breathe ionized air, and many studies show that electromagnetically charged particles can damage lungs. Also, if an oxygen molecule bonds with two others, it becomes O3, or ozone. Ozone can irritate airways and exacerbate breathing-related problems.

The best way to use an ionizer is with an operation scheduler or timer. This way, you can run your air purifier and ionizer while you are out of the house. Then, the charged particles will bond with other compounds without damaging your lungs. However, if you are sensitive to ozone, you should avoid ionizers entirely.

So, correct me if i'm wrong...

If you fart through a block of activated Charcoal, all the partials will be caught, resulting in no smell?

If that is the case, it is blasphemy! Blasphemy I tell you!

if you want fresh air in a room the open a window and allow air to circulate

problem with the room is more likely the smoke smell from the furniture, walls etc...

activated charcoal isn't going to do anything about that - ditch the soft furnishings, change the carpets and repaint/paper the walls

only if your fart is pulled through the charcoal.

how do you think carbon filters stop the smell of a very strong smelling plants, enabling people to grow them next door to you and the only sign is the melted snow on the roof because they forgot to insulate the loft

I instead would suggest proper soap washing the walls. I did this at an old flat and got rid of all the grease etc (I can't quite remember the washes name but it's a specific wall wash solution)

(you could then apply a new coat of paint after I suppose.

its called sugar soap, and is great for washing down walls prior to decorating,

in this case it would be awaste of time and effort, and when you re-paint it will still come through, believe me I learned the hard way.
