According to tomorrow's Sun there was a plot to detonate a pressure cooker bomb at an Armed Forces Parade tomorrow in London.

Apparently who ever was plotting it recruited a Sun journalist

May be crap but given today's multiple terror attacks by 'lone nutters' not affiliated to any religion it wouldn't surprise me.

Pressure cooker bomb is nothing more than a strong container for an explosive reaction. Fill it with petrol, gas, gunpowder etc drill hole and set fuse!

They are/were used a lot in Iraq/Afganistan as IEDs. It works like a large pipe bomb. The cooker is really just used as a big sealed metal tin that can withstand some pressure until it explodes, and can be filled with shrapnel and explosives.

I remember seeing a thing on TV about explosives, and if you just pile up gunpowder, it fizzes and burns, makes smoke and gas, but it doesn't really explode. However, put it in a closed container (like a pipe with the ends sealed), and all that gas and pressure builds up very quickly before the whole thing explodes into shrapnel.
