unexpected events that you escaped

In 1978 I turned on a vertical lathe and the rules were that the worker before you bolted stuff down for the next worker.
Anyway, I remember a bang and me waking up in hospital and my left ear had been taken off.
If I had been standing 10mm to the left it would have taken the side of my head off.

Bit random and nothing life threatening. Was playing tennis with a friend at one of the courts surrounded by 12ft wire fencing.

Some chavs threw an egg over the fence, hit me in the shoulder. The egg didnt crack but landed on the floor next to me then went everywhere.

No idea how it didn't wind up all over me!

I'm surprised I made it past the age of 10... got electrocuted...

clearly you weren't electrocuted :p

I once gave someone a near death experience. On holiday in ireland, I was probably in my late teens. About 11pm at night driving round the rural roads with a couple of mates. Approached a hill with a slight bend at the top, I was cocky and going too fast but confident there were no other cars as it was the middle of nowhere so no other headlights meant the road was clear.
Decided to take the 'racing line' which meant being on the far right of the road as i got to the crest of the hill, just as i came over it there was an old fella stood just to left of centre...he was walking back from the pub.
I'd have wiped him out for sure at that speed...it shook me up and taught me a lesson.

Walked past a car containing a bomb in 1998 which exploded later that evening. I still get nervous when I pass the specific vehicle type they used to transport the bomb. Short wheel base Mitsubishi Shogun. Still remember exactly where it was parked next to the police station. What way it was facing. What colour it was. Later they bombed Omagh. And we know how that went.

Not 5 minutes ago!!!!

So this escaped me

When I was about 21, I came home after a night out. It was pretty windy. As I was opening the front door, a huge tile came crashing down from the roof to the left of me. A foot or so to the right and it could have killed me.

Could a roof tile kill you dropping from a semi detached roof?

No, but a detatched house tile would have sent you 6ft under :p

was eight at the time, went to manchester with my parents to visit some relatives. were meant to go to town that day, but my relatives decided to take a detour to chinatown for lunch, next we knew, the ira just bombed town centre...

The closest thing I can think of, me and a friend was messing about with electrics in his bedroom, I touched the bare wire and it gave me shock. Thought the trip would have tripped, so just grabbed it; big mistake, ended up almost the other side of the room and swear I blacked out for a minute. Felt so weird after.

Felt so weird after.

The pain in the pectoral muscle and down the arm you used to grab the wire. Your arm feels like it's not your own. Nor does your mind. You're aware of yourself but it's like being aware of yourself through a clear gel.

Grabbed a GPU to pull it out of a computer I was working on, forgetting I hadn't actually turned the computer off. All the fans were still spinning, I was looking at the output of said computer on the screen and then thought "right, take that GPU out" and hey presto, electrocuted. **** knows what I was thinking.

Long story short. Me and my family parked up across the road from the pub to meet up with the rest of football team for lunch. Parked in between two cars. Not 2 minutes later, someone had come flying down the road, hit the first car, crashing into ours, then into the one behind. Our car was crushed to a can of pop! Daunting At the time !

Plenty others but they escapement!

Felt so weird after.

I have been electrocuted and burnt so many times its crazy, I think I like the feeling!

Your arm turns to stone and your neck cranks up! Feel them amps baby! :p

Quick edit.

I have also found it to be a quick means of fast travel across a room! ;)

My step dad drove his car too close to me. I felt the rear of my trainers being squashed as the tyres went over them. Had to get new trainers, but my feet were narrowly missed, thankfully.

I was acting like Colin McRae driving my Mk1 escort round our farm after school, mates in the back and passenger seat.. Was having a great time.
Saw in the gloom of the evening, another mate, who we hadn't invited, walking up the farm track towards us. I stop to say hello and he says "give us a go then".
I get out of the drivers seat and he says "get in the back then"
Something felt very wrong in that moment, so I decline, say to him "I'll sit this one out ta"..
So I watch him burn off away from me into the darkness, listening to the rasp of the twin cam and carbs and then suddenly silence with a light thud......
So I start walking back down the track to find some of my mates picking them selves up from the track and one from the verge.
Where's the car I wonder.. Then I see it steaming away, slammed side on into a Massive gas tank that heated our chicken houses.
Where I was going to sit, there was now the end of the gas tank and the A pillar was smack bang in the centre of the car.
One mate came out the back window and was flung about 50 yrds down the track, I think one other bailed before impact..
If I was in that side of the car, I would have been brown bread.

not me but my son was on the beach today in tunisia and managed to escape the terrorists unarmed and fled into the flat of a local man he was staying at the hotel they targeted and that beach but they had gone quad biking in the morning so were just on the way back but caught the fringes of it and had to run .

suppose that counts as a near miss lol

glad to say they are with all the other brits on a plane home this very minute

We set up a ramp for my brother to jump over a few of us on his bike. For some mad reason I agreed to go on the end.

Spent the rest of the week with a tyre tread burned onto my forehead.
