Do people only start smoking from a young age e.g at the school gates, or do some people take up smoking later in life e.g in their 30s, 40s, etc?

I started smoking at 17, gave up when I was 21.

Gave up giving up at 38 and then started vaping at 40.

I'd imagine most start from a young age (15). You'd have to be pretty idiotic to start later in life. Pretty idiotic from any age mind.

started young, but stopping [hopefully] young too.

its probably a case of young impressionable minds still in the 'i am immortal' stage of mindset thats more likely to give in to the peer pressure, and sadly as i've found it can be tricky to give up young without the doctor telling you you're going to die as a motivation.

I only smoke when I go out drinking, I usually end up buying a pack of 10 and that will do me, if I end up with some left at the end of the night usually stick them in the draw until next time I go to the pub, couldn't think of anything worse than having a fag the next day after a night out, or any other time when not drinking!

Disgusting really...

I started at 24 :(

Used to work night shifts and the only company I had was the security guard when he went for a smoke. Was pretty stupid

I can't imagine anyone wanting to start to smoke over the age of about 25. The brain is fully developed and able to sufficiently determine risk by then.

Starting smoking during the 'peak' of my going out and getting wasted phase, and did so for 4 years.
Haven't been a smoker for 2 years now, although I vape (all be it next to no nicotine - but the nicotine isn't the point, the tobacco is what messes your insides up!).

What's this about? Why do you choose to smoke when you are out drinking? Makes no sense.

Well I used to smoke daily, up until my son was born 4 years ago, I gave up for a year, but I have the massive urge to smoke when I go out drinking, plus being a social place where others are as well, I enjoy it with a beer, goes together well.

It's a drug like any other, and would probably be banned if it was invented today. I dare say vaping will have unseen consequences in the future as well.
Filthy druggies.

It is a drug with a mild effect on the brain. Just like sugar and caffeine.
When people say 'oh but I am addicted' they make it out like they have a class A drug addiction.

It is very slowly becomming banned in the Western World.

Last week the company I am in banned smoking breaks. It was hilarious how upset some people where and their stroppy moods.

Started at Uni, smokey nights in the union, in those days smoking wasn't banned in public places. You were subject to smoke everywhere so maybe that was a major factor.

Smoking should be a capital offence.

Lol at this kind of ****. Everyone should have the sovereign right to do what they like to themselves as long as they don't harm others. I don't like smoking indoors, smoking around kids is wrong in my opinion. But, I do often smoke when I go out drinking, I used to smoke and don't anymore otherwise.

I take it as a balance thing, I go long distance biking and do my best to eat well. Then sometimes I let it go and enjoy myself.

Even my doctor (same for 20 years) is of the same opinion, does the same himself and is fit and fine. Its all about risk vs reward and how to value that. Others have no right to judge, unless those people are harming someone else.
