Upgrade from a HD 6750 ?

I have a Radeon HD 6750
It's running with an E8400 and 4Gb, rampage formula

Now it is mostly OK but I'm still running at a low setting on World of Tanks and it is awful trying to run a Direwolf addon wth Minecraft, maybe 10FPS.

I've looked at memory upgrades but there is cap at 8Gb and fast 4x2Gb sticks are pricey, and there isn't much of an upgrade path from a E8400 on this motherboard.

That leaves the graphics card.
Is there much point in upgrading to anything, or is my processor so out of date now it isn't worth it and I should just go and buy some flavour of i7 ?

Yeh I was thinking that since it dies during Minecraft then it is not the GPU holding it back, because Minecraft doesn't really load that part.

I can't make head nor tail over Intel's i7 offerings, way too many similar chips.

TBH it's probably a way off in practicality but DX12 or Vulkan will give you a boost, even in duel core situations the performance gain is very notable for draw calls etc, really depends on the games you play adopting DX12. Think about waiting until dx12 hits before any upgrades especially if you are on a budget, you may save decent money on CPU upgrades. Start saving now see what you have to play around with in a few months.

Depending on your budget I'd upgrade the whole system, could be done with £250 if you went second hand. i5 2500k for £70, motherboard for £30, 8GB RAM for £30, HD 7970 £80.

what motherboard do you have? I ask as I recently picked up an i7 on 1156 for the wife for £20 - which makes an i7 for you in the same ball park!
