Attack on Tunisian hotel

but what have they done since then?
You have to keep doing it over and over just like Muslims have to apologise for ISIS even though they are being killed by them also.

Well for a start we have withdrawn most troops from Iraq and Afghanistan. Indeed the lack of appetite to send troops back to Iraq to help with IS is in part due to the public opinion against getting involved again.

:o No-one has asked Muslims to apologise for terrorism.

Yet still this is the argument we see and why these discussions are so painful. People don't read or interpret, they simply take a side a make noise with hackneyed old arguments we have heard over and over and over. I've tried to lay out what I believe is the underlaying cause of the hate and pressure being put onto the muslim community to then be called and I paraphrase by one member, a stupid, ill informed, drunken, BNP racist. Is it any wonder that these arguments always end up at a state of impass.

Umm you do realise the quiet Muslims are also targeted by IS right?

These quiet Muslims just aren't going to start shouting from their rooftops out of fear of getting blown to smithereens!

IS is against Islam just as much as it's against the West. In fact haven't more Muslims been killed by IS than white people?
I have already said that Muslims are also the victims of ISIS, given that they are more likely to be the victim I would like to think they would do more to combat extremism.

Did you shout from the rooftops when Iraq was invaded for supposed wmds?
No, I supported the war at the time, I was young and swallowed all the guff, I have also said that I was wrong on here on more than one occasion.

I noticed the BBC News gave 2 seconds to the protests in Tunisia by Muslims saying 'Not in Our Name'.

I'm sure you're under the impression that all Muslims are linked like the Aliens in Falling Skies so they all know where radicalisation is taking place and can put a stop to it.
radicalisation is happening within the Muslim communities, in their mosques and in their homes. Now no matter how much I talk up against radicalisation I am not going to be able to go into their communities and sway their opinions, that has to come from within.

The first step is to admit there is a problem, look at the three women who went to Syria from Bradford, their family knew nothing, then it transpires they tried to leave in March, then it was reported the brother was ready there fighting, then when all this came out, the family started to blame the police. Now why did they come to the attention of the police to begin with?

Some Muslims are in denial, that won't be popular but it is true.

World is a scary place! Not going to get any better soon with ISIS hitting tourists on beaches etc. What next!

Saw on the news some tourists are staying over there and not returning early so they can support the Tunisians. Good in a way I suppose, although the ladies' argument didnt make a lot of sense:

"It can happen in any country. If you aren't safe here you aren't safe anywhere".

Now would be the best time to go.

All that security knocking around and hardly anyone by the pool or at the bar :) bliss.

What she said was true it can happen anywhere. The security saved some.
When was the last time you saw security on Brighton beach?

isis nutters would have a field day there. But lets hope not.

It's tragic. I can't imagine what it would be like lying in the sun with your wife/other half and see someone shooting at you and people around you - it's a harrowing image/thought.

39 deaths (1 of which was the murderer) and 39 wounded people. That's over 70 people shot or killed :(

The thing is these people (ISIS) don't see other humans as human beings, they see them as a pariah of society, as scum, and as irrelevant as swatting a fly. Completely dispassionate life taking. Pure twisted evil and my thoughts and prayers really do go out to all affected - it will be a trying time for everyone involved either directly or indirectly.

I fear we're heading closer and closer to some sort of "critical mass" - it's rather depressing. What is the best thing to do? Stand tall and ignore it, defy it in solidarity? Or live life in caution not letting anyone in or not travelling at all and effectively be held hostage through intimidation? I can understand people getting more and more nervous about the huge variation in society and the world's population and differences - unfortunately this will only help to reinforce or propagate preconception and / or stereotypes.

I just hope as a result of this, hate crimes do not go up and that ISIS can be disbanded through them not breaking the resolve of the west / those that do not follow - but I can understand people being intimidated by this sort of thing.

Stupid uneducated opinion, societies are inherently unequal and some places are inherently less safe.

Her citizenship should be ripped up :P /rabble

Stupid, uneducated opinion. At the moment Tunisia is probably safer than a lot of destinations due to massive police presence. Also a very nice country.

Well, duh?

This is AFTER THE FACT. :o

The level of due care by police forces in Europe compared to any African nation will be vastly different, i also assume that its damn easy to bribe them too.

Was in Morocco travelling a few months back and I was very impressed by the levels of security they had there am I'm sure Tunisia would have been similar but sadly it only case one guy to slip through for things like this to happen. :(

I have been in Tunisia and the security is good but as you say no country can foil the determined lone wolf. Presidents of the US have been shot at and look at the security they have when they travel.
