Really upset an Irish man on Saturday...

I must be really slow as I am still trying to figure out what it was you said that caused offence?

He said to the chap that he likes meeting people from Britain outside of Britain, implying that the Irish guy was British. Seems the Irish guy was ok with British isles however.

As an Irish person I would not be offended by this comment, just correct the mistake and that would be it. It sounds like you just got a couple of chip on their shoulder types. They do make me roll my eyes :)

To all those asking what was said to cause such offence, you need to remember the animosity between Britain (specifically England) and Ireland. To your average Irish person this is not something they will dwell upon, or judge English people by. But as the OP found out, some do take it all to seriously.

Imagine if a Scottish or Welsh person was mistaken as being English. I made that mistake once when I asked a Welshman what part of England he was from. ;)

I dont know how anyone outside the uk is going to know the difference between England, Britain and the united kingdom when half the people inside don't know.

I've not met anyone with any animosity towards the English... as far as I was aware that is mostly a idiots on council estates in Northern Ireland who still think they're fighting for some sort of cause.

Frankly anyone harboring grudges over historic events needs to get a grip. Tis like hating the Germans or the Japanese because our grandparents fought each other.

You are a colossal ******* aren't you. I'm surprised you are the sperm that won.

God there really are some complete utter ***** in this world and quite a few on this forum.

We seem to have more than our fair share here!

Enough chips on shoulders to make me think if we add a bit of salt and vinegar we'll have a portion.
