UnTaxed Car fine incoming?

Ok, so I am a doofus! I got a reminder to renew my car tax a fortnight ago, and last night at midnight, it ran out, and today I just remembered this and paid it straight away.

Am I going to get an automatic fine of £80, or are they nice and only do the processing at midnight on the day after?

I've paid my tax two weeks after the due date (I didn't drive the car at the time as I was on holiday abroad) and didn't get a penalty so I think you should be fine.

Oddly I received no reminder for my tax being due on 1st July, thankfully I had a reminder set in my phone.

I didn't receive my reminder (moved house, didn't update v5), and as mine expires on new years eve - i was 'distracted'.

Did it a few days later. Never heard a peep. Car was stationarry during that period.

If you've been hit by an ANPR, you'll get the fine. My mum got one a couple weeks ago. She never got a letter to remind her. I told her she should have known when it needed renewed anyway (no sympathy here).

His old car had no MOT (no rear window for 18 months and flat tyre) or tax.
A neighbour told me his new one had no tax.

Has he heck. He drives it every single day. It only has an MOT because he bought the car recently. Mark my words, in mid Dec it won't have one.

His house looks derelict and I called the Police because I thought he had died!
Flies all over the windows of living room etc.

Turns out he is just a complete slob who told the Policeman he likes living that way.

What was most disappointing is that the Police did not seem to care much about the Tax concern. I have no idea if it is insured, but looking at the collapsed fences, mounted takeaway containers in the kitchen and 2' high grass, my bet is not.
