Only 300,000 crossfire/sli setups (estimated)

On the one hand I find it hard to believe that only 300k people world wide have a multicard setup, on the other it would go to show why game support is pretty sketchy a lot of the time

In fact, I'm going to call bull on this, as there are around 40million graphics cards sold every year, and whilst I'm sure it is a "low percentage" that go in to a multicard setup, 300k seems far too low

Went to look for the steam survey results. But from what i read, they removed the multi GPU detection since it was flawed.

300k does seem awfully low lol. Although on pretty much every discussion I see its probably 99% of posters will recommend a single card setup over xfire/sli

I'm one of the lucky few! I feel honoured. I have to say I haven't experienced any issues using SLI other than the ever present having to remember to re-enable it after patch Thursdays. :D

The number does sound low but multi-cards setups are massively over-represented in this forum and other tech forums.

I wonder how many combined 690/7990/295x2 sales there have been? almost all of those cards will still be in circulation.

Does seem a bit low.

I've never experienced any xfire issues though, smooth as butter and performance is fantastic.

300k Seems accurate.
Sure on here dozens use multi GP because were enthusiasts.
But
Think about every prebuilt machine. Every casual gamer (PC user). Every person that doesn't spend more than £600 on a PC even as an enthusiast.
Lets not forget the bugginess of Crossfire. Pretty much everyone that Crossfires AMD regrets it after a week.

Yeah but how many of them are even worth Crossfire/SLI. I'm positive half of those graphic cards are not even med/top tier cards.

Basically, whatever "source" they've used for this it cant be accurate... If I buy a card from one retailer and then a few months later buy another from somewhere else, or even if I buy multiple cards from one retailer, they have no way of knowing if that went in to the same machine, and as mentioned above, multicard detection is buggy at best

Everything fudzilla write is made up for dramatic effect.

They are the redtop tabloids of our world.

I ended up with a pair of Sapphire 7850's a few years back and gave crossfire a try. At the time it was a terrible experience for me but I heard it got a lot better around when the bridgeless generation got released, Apart from the slow profile support that is.

I don't think they're calculating it like that (but who am I to say). If so that is flawed af.
However I do think Nvidia and AMD cant detect multiple GPUs with built in software quite easily. Sure Steam messed up on their behalf since they don't have full control of the operation.

I was perfectly happy with my 5770s/5850s/7950s in the past...
They have improved their drivers since but really? You had no problems in 5xxx series? Lucky man.

I would think the number is significantly higher than 300k to be honest. If that number was for one vendor then possibly but if it incudes AMD, Nvidia and both the companies dual GPU cards then the number has to be a lot bigger than that?

I'm one of only 300,000 worldwide? Yay - that means I'm special. :D

Figures do seem a little plucked out of thin air, but I have nothing to contradict them. Does seem a low figure to me, wonder if that accounts for people (typically) keeping crossfire/SLI set ups longer than single card users simply because of the extra power they wield, and the doubled cost to upgrade.
