End of the day different styles work different for different people but while it works ok for me when dealing with a small number of contributors i.e. emails I personally find the implementation on sites like reddit, thinkbroadband, etc. horridly dated and inefficient compared to the alternatives - fortunately on sites like TB you have a choice.

I guess that's why I don't get it - there's no structure that I find comfortable it seems to be a bit of a mish mash. The threaded topics like in email is fine, but I can't understand the structure of the forums there.

I do user other forums, and they are all laid out similarly to this - I'm sure there are sections of the reddit forums which make sense if you are familiar, to me it is so busy, and it does not seem to have any interesting content.

Still, it's popular so clearly they're providing a service to those that use it.

You need to branch out into the subredit forums and just browse. The website has so much going on it can be confusing, but to say it has nothing of interest  you need to explore all the subs that show up at the top atleast.

Or search for a topic of interest, I bet it has one :p

I'm sure it has interesting content, just like the internet has interesting content if you know where to look, but I just don't get on with walls and walls of text and to me it is just messy.

Each to their own - there's no right or wrong in this, it's just not for me :)

Reddit is very simple if you aren't a moron and spend more than 10 minutes on it.

On point, it seems to me like a lot of mods are just enjoying the power grab they have by being able to close their subs. No one is really sure why whatsherface was fired, though I believe her being fired isn't the problem itself.

People are mostly annoyed that they weren't informed about it, and consequently weren't able to run their subs - specifically /r/IAmA - properly, as she used to facilitate a lot of AMAs. Which is fair enough. However, I think other subs closing down as a show of solidarity is actually quite petty and like I said, probably just a power trip.

Many reddit fanboys insulting people who don't like the layout.

Another reason I don't reddit.

I like Reddit, I frequent it often along with OCUK, I mainly just browse in my areas of interest, or the main page to see what is popular.

I would often see AMA's and would see that Victoria was mentioned in all of them as helping out, not knowing who Victoria was or anything, I still thought they seemed to be doing a good job.

It's terrible everytime I keep reading AMA, I keep thinking of… http://www.americanmotorcyclist.com/about/history

+1 for confusing layout

Plus TEST, the mini-goons came from there. Nothing good has come from it

I had a surreal experience with TEST in Eve (people who've not played won't understand).

http://www.eve-kill.net/?a=kill_detail&kll_id=11984984

Was on a roam with a 60 player fleet jumped into a 3 way stand off (none of them engaging as they were waiting on the other(s) to make the first move) with 200+ player fleets from test and a couple of other entities (all hostile to each other) I forget who the others were - our fleet warped off but I was engaged by the lone hurricane and there we were having a 1v1 in the middle of 600 odd players and no one did anything - he got no reps, no one else shot at me or him lol we were just duking it out in the middle of at the time 3 of the biggest fleets assembled in eve and they just sat watching.

The community is what made Reddit what it is. It relies on user submitted content. The past couple of years Reddit has slowly been ****ing users. Since they hired Pao, they've been pushing a political agenda in my opinion. They banned the subreddit Fat People Hate, after people complained. But there are far more odious subreddits that remain and are currently still active. Why was Fat People Hate banned and others not? I imagine Pao has a few fat friends bending her ear. It presents itself as a website for free speech, so either ban them all, or reinstate FPH. Pao also has a history of being a bully in the work place, is married to a scumbag and when she was fired from her last job for being incompetent she took them to court claiming they fired her just because she's a woman.

Is this Victoria bird fit? Is that what's causing all the outcry at her removal?? :p

No because 'white knighting' is generally looked down upon on the internet. Here's the picture supposedly of her doing the rounds:

To be fair, if you don't the layout you only have yourself to blame.

eh? It's just down to personal preference, there's no "blame" there at all. What a nonsensical comment.

It's not for everyone that's all - different tastes and preferences.

Reddit is no better than OcUK or any other forum - it is just down to what you like. Some people don't like it, some people do. That's all there is to it.

(This isn't aimed at you, but a general point) Calling people morons or idiots or special for not liking the layout of reddit is pretty pathetic.

There's a difference between not liking something and claiming something unusable. If you're unable to navigate a threaded conversation, you're an idiot. If you don't like threaded conversations, whatever.

Lol I wasn't having a go at him for not liking the layout, I was teasing him for missing out the word 'like' in his post - a mistake we all make from time to time for sure (think I did a similar thing in SC last week).

I'm on reddit, I can't see any evidence of meltdown, all my threads seem to work fine. All this crap because someone got fired, who cares

Hmm, IMDb is threaded. So is Thinkbroadband. Flat view is optional but default is threaded. How did people cope in 1999 and the early 2000s with Newsgroups?

Bit presumtive of others to think people who express a dislike of reddit's format are too thick to navigate the pile of *****.
