**AORUS X5 -Coming Soon**

So basically around 10% faster than a 980M, for almost 100% the energy and heat output.

PS: what is it with Hexus only testing two games, one of which is very CPU dependant and one of which is just plain old now? Sure, they briefly mention Witcher 3, but that is very poor gaming test coverage for a specialist gaming laptop review.

Shame on them.

If you have the budget you are best off sticking with a single 980M then, you want a 30% advantage at least over a single card to overcome poorer frame times and compensate for those games that scale poorly in SLI.

Does that review compare the heat output of the one 980m vs 965m sli? It was a bit of a long read for someone who already bought the laptop ;)

All the 980m laptops I looked at were pretty chunky.

To be quite honest I have played and tested this machine and I think it's great, its less than an inch think which is the main reason I bought it and I wanted good game performance, I know there is more powerful better laptops out there that will have better cooling etc but one they are built like bricks and weigh a tonne which is not practical for everyday use for me. I purchased a nomad backpack with mine and it goes well and can carry it around no problem. In terms of heat I knew it was going to run hot its a thin laptop with 2 gpu's what do you expect... But with the combination of cooler and laptop the laptop runs cool enough on my hands at full load. Safe to say I'm very happy with the laptop and don't have any complaints even about the fan noise I wear a headset so only people that can complain is people around me :D

Hi napper90,

Thanks for your feedback, we are glad you are enjoying the product and continue to do so well into the future:D

Your views are completely inline with how we believe a large portion of our target consumer should view the AORUS range.

Thanks again and have a good weekend.

The throttling and noise definitely validate that I had to go for the Asus.
This is a beautiful looking machine (and I would have loved less weight lugging the Asus around TX)
But in the office at work particularly a noisy laptop wouldn't be popular!
Also the throttling on the cpu.. Doesn't that somewhat negate the power of the cpu?

I would have to agree with you.

Just tried Star Citizen and was impressed with the fps.

With or without G-Sync at 1920x1080 it was very playable and averaged around 40 fps. It dipped down to 16 when the Vanduul swarm were spawning, but would pick back up to 40 to 55 fps right after.

Remember this game is in Alpha testing.

Yes, a 300-400mhz throttling is pretty significant. These slim laptops were simply not intended to hold the heat of two hot GPU's and a CPU... the thinner they try and make it, the worst the heat issues will be and the more the components will throttle.

Nothing wrong with a chunky girl! If you want serious power with no throttling, go big. I did and never looked back.

I do sometimes long for a desktop - lower temps, easier modding etc - but then I take this baby on the road and all is forgiven

These slim laptops are a gimmick tbh!

The 980Ms decimate even BF4 at Ultra. Worth investing in SLI if you have the money. The 965s aren't future proof

P.S. Investing in a decent laptop cooler is a must. I have tried the Coolermaster SF-19 and changed to the U3. It's epic. You can change the fan placements to match your intakes under the laptop. It's all about airflow

Big? It's tiny compared to the p570wm which i was using before ;) That does not need a pad even for oced hardware :D

9.5 kg with both power supplies lol.

FYI - More stock of the AORUS X5 has left factory and is on route to OcUK warehouse,,,

Could be ready to ship on Friday this week, but more likely to be Monday.

Again, all pre-orders placed will be sent the AORUS hoodie and 64GB AORUS memory stick.

Thanks,

Anyone know if the Aorus x5 is compatible with Nvidia 3D Vision ?

Hi garyoleary,

We assume you mean to output to a 3D Vision Monitor?

If so, our default setting for 3D Vision is "OFF", but you can turn back on if you re-install the NVidia driver.

Hope that answers for you.

Sorry I meant Nvidia 3D vision with the 3D glasses. I think the answer is no since the screen only shows 59 and 60hz in the options, tho with all the g-sync Magic i wasn't sure. Nvidia just quotes 120hz as a requirement but not much else.

Hi Gary,

No unfortunately G-sync doesn't perform this amount of magic!

Backlight Bleed

Hi,

Any Aorus X5 owners getting Backlight Bleed ? I've attached a pic showing the extent of it.

backlightbleed_small.jpg

Wanted to get some opinions before i call support. Brightness is set to about 50% , it does look worse in real life but essentially its the bottom corners that are most noticeable when watching movies etc

Thanks
Gary

Hey Atom80 - any plans to make something similar but with more noise/heat/budget considerations?

By this I mean, perhaps along the same chassis lines as the X5, but with a single GPU instead of SLI (this surely has to contribute significantly to noise/heat), single SSD for the O/S etc.

Cameras typically make bleed look worse rather than better. That looks pretty minimal.

Although for the price, I would expected zero bleed.
