Every time I try to read reddit is just confuses me... if you are going to have a discussion why not have things in chronological order!!!

That said, I am very simple.

Is there a TL;DR version? All I've got is that someone was dismissed and now the site's going nuts.

  • Sacking of much loved, and required admin.
  • Lack of communication between admins, moderators and community.
  • Lack of development of moderation tools for high volume subs.
  • Ellen Pao being an absolute **** and all round terrible CEO and person.
  • Claims to value free speech, until that free speech offends them.
  • Closes subreddits claiming they were doxxing people, when they didn't doxx anyone. Just posted pictures of fat imgur workers in the fat people hate subreddit because imgur didn't want FPH posts uploaded to imgur, because most of them are fat.
  • Closing subreddits under rules they seem to be picking and choosing while allowing more odious subreddits to remain.

Cool, thanks. The most exposure I've had to Reddit is when I am searching for something and it pops up in the search results.

How do you mess up Reddit, or any community driven site?

By bending to advertising dollars and the whims of venture capitalists. Instead of what the community wants. Much like happened with Digg. No advertiser or VC wants to be involved with a website that has some of the more disgusting corners of the web. It's why 4chan has never had a "major" form of sponsorship, or a means of revenue.

Much like 4chan, there really are some horrible, odious and disgusting subreddits. It's unattractive to advertisers and backers.

Steve Harvey (comedian) recently did a piece with Seinfeld with "Comedians in cars getting coffee" where he talks about how he had to apologise for a joke he made. Seinfeld asked him "why did you have to apologise?" to which Harvey replied "cos I got a talk show... advertisers". You should give it a watch. Starts at 8:25 into the episode.

I recently started browsing a gaming subreddit, because the posts are a lot higher quality than the official game forums, but still find the layout counterproductive.

I'm a regular reedit goer yet have no idea who this Victoria person is and why should I care for her ? Thankfully, none of my subs seem to have been made private.

Still got no idea what a cake day is and it really winds me up when people have their cake day for up votes. (I'm grumpy like that)

You get a cake logo next to your username when it's your reddit birthday!

I've followed it a lot. There is a petition with almost 100k signatures calling for Ellen Pao to resign. She does seem a real piece of work so watching her career go up in flames is hilarious.

Reddit layout is horrible, however it is far from useless. It's just finding sub redits that you are interested in, as well as AMA.
Seeing as sub reddits fill ever thing, there will be stuff on there for everyone.
