First car advice

How old area you? I'd be looking at something Focus/Astra-sized if you want to keep it for a few years, you'll appreciate the extra size, better engine, better spec etc. You'll get a better, bigger car for the same money as that Corsa (which does seem expensive for what it is).

I'm 28.

I'm thinking of the insurance costs too. This car seems like a decent balance. Guessing Focus would be higher premium?

You could probably get a Mini One for that money. 1.6, alloys, much nicer car and probably just as cheap on the insurance.

Not necessarily, different cars can have different premiums, when I passed, 2.0 family saloons were cheaper than 1.0 superminis, not sure what the situation is now as that was a long time ago now, but your better of checking out wide range of cars than limiting yourself to Corsa's and such.

If its not going to be a car just to get your first years no claims then as above I'd look at larger cars.

What'd you learn to drive in?

My first car was a 02 plate Focuse 1.8TDCI Diseasel and I hated it LOL, next was a seat ibiza 2.0 sport, mind you saying that there was nowt "sport"" about it haha

I'd look at a larger hatch tbh, depends on budget really.

Focus
Leon
Astra

I prefer the slightly older shape on the astra's and prefer the interior on them too.
You'd be hard pushed to find one with plenty toys tho :(

Is some kind of PCP type affair compeltely out of the window?
KEep yer eyes on HUKD thers been a few decent offers on there, recently there was a higher spec Citreon C1 for like 85 a month. Not to everyones taste mind

Grr it's sold now anyway. Site wasn't up to date.

Will keep my eyes open. Suzuki SX4 1.6? Looks ok but crap reviews I've noticed.

I learnt in a 2014 Mini Cooper D. Loved it actually but probably bad move trying to get one for first car.

My budget is probably about up to £5k I think.

I think you could do far better for upto 5k that the boggo corsa tbh mate

What do you need for the car?
Everyone including myself have said a larger car would be better, but do you need it?

Does it?

I sold an 8 year old Corsa a couple of years ago for £2500 and it was the much older model at the time. So an extra grand, relatively, for the newer model, doesn't seem outrageous.

Fox had a corsa!?!?

5 door would be nice but not vital. Any size really tbh. Will just be using it on weekends mostly to go places out of town. Maybe the odd passenger eventually. Would like some good storage size.

Yuk no. Avoid.

As has been said focus is a good bet. It's a bit bigger. More reliable. Cheap to fix if it does go wrong. Good range of engines. Good range of equipment.
Obviously it's down to what you like at the end of the day but keep in mind things like the focus and golf are very common for a reason. They're good.
