Hi

Need advice from you guys, I'm thinking about changing my focus 1.6tdci titanium (2010) to a
64 plate focus 1 litre 125 ecoboost.

I will be test driving but I would like to know from anyone on here who owns a 1 litre 125 how they are finding the performance of the engine long term.

Thanks

Do I need a reason?;)

Basically I would like a newer car and a change from diesel to petrol as I don't feel i get the benefits from diesel all the time.

It will be the same car won't it, not even facelifted or do you have a MK2?

Seems like a pretty pointless change to be honest. Probably worth spending a bit extra and getting a 15 plate facelift as well if you are going to change.

Edit - New Focus was probably 2011 actually wasn't it.

It's not pointless at all the mk 3 Focus is a step up to the mk2.5 and has a better quality feel to it.
Heard nothing but good things about the 1.0T engine.
If I was u OP I would get the Zetec S version with the 1.6T in in that's got something like 185bhp.

Actually I'd say the mk3 focus is a step back from the mk2.

They applied a rotten dash, a horrid cheap little screen (seriously Ford it's similar to the fiesta one, a low resolution nasty thing brought out in what, 2007?) ruined the steering a bit more, ruined the pedal feel completely then kitted out lower spec models with some of the worst seat coverings I've ever seen.

That said, the little ecoboost is a likeable engine so long as you are willing to work it and particularly aware of where you are in the rev range at low speeds

I really disliked the interior of the mk3 focus reminded me of an old nokia phone, however, the facelift mk3.5 is miles better in every way.

Actually I'd say the mk3 focus is a step back from the mk2.

I would say the opposite. The mk2's interior is hardly the pinnacle of quality (unless you like hard grey plastic everywhere) and standard equipment levels are sparse even on the highest trim levels. IMHO the mk3 feels a bit more 'grown up' even if the centre console isn't to everyone's tastes.

It definitely doesn't miss that shiny fake metallic look centre console, but as a whole I really dislike where they went with the mk3 - the way it drives just really puts me off.

The facelift massively improves the look, not driven one yet but expect it'll be much the same.

I have one, I really like it.

Sure it's not fast, but it's definitely not slow either. It always takes people by surprise when they find out it's a 1 litre and they've been in my car, it really is quite impressive what they've achieved

That said, the fuel economy is pretty turd compared to the advertised figures. I get 42mpg from my work commute, but my old commute which involved A-roads I got even worse. It really struggles to keep decent MPG figures when cruising at 70 or above.

I have the 100hp and get 47.4mpg so I wouldn't expect more than 45 which is a way off the advertised.

Oh yeah, don't get me wrong, I'm pretty pleased overall with the fuel economy especially given the amount of miles I do.

Just compared to what the advertise (mid to high 50's), it's turd.

'Surprised' sums up my experience after having one as a temp car.

Very nippy for a 1.0 even with 5 people in.

I have a 2012 Focus (albeit the 1.6 Ecoboost) and if you get the Sony Stereo instead of the Ford one the interior is improved tenfold.

I sat in the back of one of these a couple of months ago. Four of us in the car. I was very surprised at how well it went. It pulls from reasonably low revs and didn't seem to struggle with a car full of people.

Thanks for the responses everyone, I have decided to hold off for now and save a bit more to perhaps get a new facelift model.

The mk3 I was looking at (Titanium Navigator) was nice but feature wise I felt it was a step back from what I currently own (mk2.5 titanium) which has had a lot of option packs fitted like reverse cam/ keyless entry and a big touchscreen display in the centre console.

Saying that I dont use half the features:o

Maybe I will look at a new mk3.5 at a later date and maybe customise say a zetec trim with appearance pack/ reverse sensors / sync2 dab system.

By the way has anyone got the sync2 system in there car? it sounds like what I have but better?
