FINALLY Sunday trading laws are being relaxed! I personally find this a good thing, as I find I do a lot or most of my shopping on a Sunday, and can't stand the way everything feels like it stands still past 4PM on a Sunday.

I've been thinking this would be coming soon with the likes of Amazon Logistics, and DPD (amongst a few others) doing Sunday deliveries.

To me and I'm sure a lot of other people around here, Sunday's just another day of the week, rather than this special day of rest where everything has to stand still.

I agree brilliant news. I often like to go shopping on sundays, but by the time I've dragged myself out of bed and done a few bits I only have an hour or two to go shopping

Yup, good news this.

Pretty frustrating when you suddenly find yourself with one of the handful of weekends with good weather, but you can't go buy the crap you need for the garden until 11am. Among other, less specific, restricted opening annoyances :D

I suppose you could then say that Sunday really is a day of rest (sleeping in late) which makes shops being open later even more important. :p

I'm the same, it's a pain rushing around shops with like an hour to go everywhere.

It's great timing, extend sunday opening hours so those about to get their benefits slashed in the budget are able to work more hours to make up the short comings.

What a master stroke.

This in turn then makes Sunday a normal trading day and you watch those companies do away with Sunday premiums, saving them millions.

Have you got any examples of Sunday premiums? I feel like I should know what they are, but I haven't come across them before.

I can't believe Sunday Trading is still a thing. Living in Scotland we haven't had it for years and I don't miss it one bit.

time and a half, double time things like that are offered quite often for working Sundays.

I have to say I kinda miss quiet Sundays where nothing is open and it is all about spending time with family and friends.

Still, I guess in this modern fast moving world it isn't a bad thing for most people.

I work from home most of the time in the week, so I find my Saturdays and Sundays are my "busy time out of the house" days, which is why it works well for me. Plus I tend to be more motivated to do things later on.

I wonder how this will affect the opening times of places like gyms? That's one thing in particular that I'd like, a gym that doesn't close early on a Saturday and Sunday, due to the above.

Nothing will stop you doing that though. It just gives the option for people who would prefer to go shopping.

Annoys the crap out of me when I decide I want something for tea on a Sunday but I've missed the 4pm cutoff!

Gym's aren't affected by it anyway, the staff just have better things to do at the weekend.

Doesn't change the way you and your family have to spend the Sunday :) this at least gives people the option.

There are some Gyms around that are already open 24/7 so you can go for a 4am drunken weight session and get massive in the night

try anytime fitness, they're open 24 hours... you have a keyfob for when they're not staffed - they have an entry system, cameras and buttons to talk to remote staff etc.. for those time periods...

Agreed, also makes going out on a Sunday a pain in the **** as you have to make sure you're back by half 3 to go to the shop

The 5/2 day week is pointless and arbitrary anyway, people don't work on a 7 day cycle, we need to eat every day...
