Hi all,

I've been looking for a petrol S-Max for months now with a budget of 7k ish...

I want the Titanium spec, and had my eyes on one since Friday but it was in Dorset so I waited for pics to be uploaded (which were due to be today) and it's sold. It's getting infuriating as there are so little a number of petrol Titaniums about within budget and decently low miles.

So I've just about given up, it's exhausting... I don't want a Zafira, the only other options are a Grand C4 Picasso or a Grand C-Max. Anyone have one (petrol variant) and can offer any review?

I have a diesel Grand Picasso, great car, very practical, but not exactly exciting.

That's why I want an S-Max :(

I guess on the plus side I would save a couple of grand going for a Picasso. What's the reliability of yours like?

You won't save a couple grand buying a Picasso because u will probably spend that on repairing insane faults that U would never normally get on something that's not French.
Buy a Ford and make it petrol = win and no expensive bills:p

There is an 09' S-Max with 42k miles on for 8k I could stretch to... but it's in a 'Chill' colour and I'm not too keen on it at all :/

Am I being too picky? lol

It's this colour... (diff car tho obviously)

Not had a problem with my C4GP, but it is only 2 years old. Not sure I would buy an old one.

From reading around it seems people say the S-Max 2.0 TDCi is a good engine and more built for the car than the 2.0L Petrol... maybe worth plumping up the extra cash and going for a Diesel then? The problem is I do a lot of short driving, so I'd need to take it out every couple of weeks to get teh engine up to temp and drive 20-30 mins for the DPF to regen?

Get a petrol Ford and u won't have any problems providing it's a good example. I have had 4 Fords and never had a problem they are really underrated in the reliability stakes. You need to be doing 15k miles a year to warrant the extra diesel costs and potential turbo/injector repair bills.
Why has it got to be one of these 2 cars? The Mondeo has a massive boot.

Diesel just sounds like too much ball ache with my annual mileage and driving - cold stop starts with not really that many long journeys, and very infrequently at that.

Guess I'll just have to wait for the next one to pop up. It seems to be about 1 per month though ,and by the time I've enquired (even though I'm on AT religiously) it's gone! Madenning.

The last one was 130 miles away so I had no choice but to wait for the pictures, still never got to see them as its gone already!

I could go Zetec but I'd miss Cruise Control too much, if the Zetec had it I'd get one no problem.

Both the c Max and the big Picasso are horrendous to drive (I nearly stuck a c Max into a Heathrow link barrier after jumping out of a 508 into it) - the the Citroen does at least seem to come laden with kit for the money and to me seems like a much bigger car (maybe it is?)

As much as I'm not an S-max fan I'd hold out for one if you must have that style of car

The S-Max is a brilliant car. Ridiculous amounts of space and yet it drives with none of the cumbersome lack of composure that most MPVs exhibit. Well equipped if you don't get a base spec version too, and good value. The Citroen is a horrible thing. Even the brand new C4 Picasso I drove a while back was pretty crap.

The '07 SMax Diesels don't have a DPF. If I went for one of them what other problems would I face compared to getting a Petrol? Is the DMF more likely to go in one for example than a petrol etc.?
