My brother is looking for buy a Toyota Corolla Verso. Needs a 7 seater and he is pretty set on getting one of these.
Does anyone have one of these or know what to look out for when going to view one of these, common faults etc? He is looking to get a petrol version one, most likely a 1.8 VVT-i.
Thanks in advance :)

What year? For older models check the heaters blow hot air as the matrix blocks, it can also leak so check the passenger side floor for damp.

Check the coolant level as the radiator can leak at the corners.

His max budget is £4000 but he is looking to spend £3000 or less. I have seen one for £1600 for an 2003 1.8 manual with 67000 mile. Might see if he is interested in going to see that one.

^ I would be 90% sure that car is clocked, these cars were fairly popular with Taxi drivers so there are high mileage examples out there that are clocked and sold below market value which seems like a bargain to the untrained eye.

yes i know that trick.. can also workout if it is clocked by looking at the service manual/handbook too if it has one. It is an one owner only car according to the advert so should have the handbook.

Don't trust MOT and service books. Very easy to clock it back just before service/MOT due. Not very difficult to do and I know for a fact it happens. Sad but true. Buy on condition and test drive. If it feels shagged, it probs is despite what the odometer would have you believe.

thanks... what is the going rate for a 2003-2004 1.8 manual one with less that 100K in good condition if anyone knows?

Depending on mileage, spec etc your looking at anything between 2.2k and 3k at the very top end in the private market, add at least £200 for traders, aim for something around ~2.5k, 70-90k miles, t3 spec.

Also agree with service books etc, they are easily forged, even looking at condition can be a difficult indicator as some cars wear very well. Checking VOSA MOT history online IMO is the only decent way of telling as they cant change the electronic records.

I have a 68k mile Feb 09/58 T-Spirit 1.8 vvti. Just 'valued' at £4k as PX.
Only look at SR or T-Spirit as they have a few 'toys'....DVD, digital dual zone climate, blah.
Issues? Noisy anti-roll bar bushes; 'dry' engine mount; 'squeaky' clutch pedal.
Don't even bother with an auto (MMR?)....really problematic apparently.
Can feel under-powered but actually goes ok if revved but noisy!
Actually quite a nice car for a 7 seat barge.

Ahh! Can be prone to heavy oil use in high mileage older models. 1 litre per 600 miles is acceptable according to Toyota!! Mine is not doing this thankfully.

If your 58 plate was valued at £4K.. how much would it sell for as a private sale then roughily please?

Well that's the question!.... I could advertise between £4500 and £5000 but I doubt it'd go for much over £4400. What you want vs. What you'll get......

Does anyone know what price a 2006 Toyota Corolla Verso 1.8 VVT-i T3 with 70K miles in good condition should go at.. my brother is thinking of getting one but it is priced at £3.3K after getting them down.. is that a good price for it?

it has some scapes/scratches on one side... but my brother is happy to buy at the price.. so he has gone with it.

It's coming upto 10 years old so wont be perfect, so long as they are not large or deep scrapes, otherwise use that to bargain on the price.
