Energy rip off,

yeah your right but it just seems a lot of hassle tbh

@dowie ill have to look into it,the electric isn't too bad tbh but the gas in winter eats it up

I still feel more should be done for prepay customers

If you angle for a SMART meter with a separate LCD display you can plonk it in your home office or lounge it will show you your cost per day/hour etc. All you need to do is enter the prices.

Unfortunately the options are there but it depends on what you consider your time is worth. If you value your time more than the cheaper prices then there isn't much to say.

I don't mean to sound harsh but i hope you can see where I'm coming from.

haha it makes me laugh when eon give you a free energy monitor,if they lowered prices we wouldn't need to scrutinise our consumption

And there would be no incentive for people who don't care about saving energy to save energy. The places in the world that use the least energy per head have the highest prices (bar places where they just don't really have much electricity).

Serious question. Give me an example of how.

Considering it costs more to the business to manage a prepayment customer than a credit one and you can't expect a business to absorb the additional cost.
They cant offer cheaper prices than a standard credit meter customer as this is hardly fair on all the credit customers who do pay their bills. (I know this example or comment doesn't apply to yourself)

why does it cost them more to monitor a prepay meter?

cant they look into ways to make it cheaper, surely theres a way

It's actually cheaper with the company I work for to be a prepayment customer than a credit customer. Bit back to front with the rest of the market but it's what we specialise in

More chance of a quantum/legacy (card/key) meter going wrong as they're ancient. Sending an engineer to fix a token problem like a meter crediting incorrectly or taking to much for debt etc is costly and that's usually reflected in the pricing.

The industry knows this yet it continues to reap the benefits from it.

Do you expect the Energy industry to educate an entire nation? They can provide you with the info but its down to your own responsibility to make a choice and use the info provided.

Energy companies cant hold the hands of the nation for their energy choices. They can advise and help if you ask them directly but if you don't then what are they to do?

Then the cost is being absorbed elsewhere by other members of your customer base then. The cost is still there to someone!

perhaps you could share that company with wazza300 so he can save some money on his bills

Just wondering how often you can switch. We've been on the EDF Price Match until Feb 2016 for about a year but it seems there are some savings to be had when I checked on USwitch?

Exactly, credit customers :p

We do make it clear that the tariff is 10% higher to be on credit but most of the time they're happy as they just want a smart meter. I guess pricing isn't everything for some people.

According to British Gas those on prepayment meters do not pay any more for their energy than those on a credit meter. Though I also read a report that indeed those with prepayment meters do pay more because of the high cost of maintenance. The enegy companies cannot have it both ways.

Personally i don't believe credit customers should be paying for the failings of prepayment customers. It's hardly fair on them for paying what they owe and supporting others in the process at a cheaper rate.

On the flip side, there are those who are on credit and don't pay... You seem very against prepayment customers and are adamant they must use credit but for some people that just isn't an option. If people get behind on credit then their DD might go up and one month that might be too much or whatever, some people just like to pay and go and be done with it.
