AMD 8350 Stock with after market cooling @ 69C!

Hi all,

I am trying to make sure my brothers machine is running at an acceptable level.

Currently the CPU is set to 3.5GHZ with no option enabled for turbo.

I have undervolted the CPU to 1.224v from the stock VID of 1.3625v.

After 20 mins of Pime95 I have decided to create this post on the forums as 69C is not acceptable when using:

Raijintek Themis Direct Contact CPU Cooler
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound (the size of a grain of rice).

For reference the specs are:

AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8320 Black Edition 3.50GH
Gigabyte 990XA-UD3 AMD 990X
Patriot Viper "Black Mamba" Generation 3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9

I have just fitted the Raijintek Themis today,before the AMD stock cooler was fitted and the system was reporting 78C!

What is really really strange, temps are around 20-25 at idel.

Have you adjusted the LLC settings? Have you checked the voltage when under load? Try undervolting CPU/NB a notch or two.

Prime is not the preferred test really as for any modern multicore CPU it is a bit extreme (Intel or AMD). Try ASUS Realbench or AIDA CPU test. Run some gaming benchmarks for real world usage.

The Themis is a budget heatsink, it's OK but may be less than ideal.

What case? How many case fans? Are they running flat out under load?

I had an 8350 since 2012 and could OC to 5GHz at 65C max, but with LLC upped to ultra high 1.416V and plenty of airflow with a large heatsink (Phanteks). Now I have a 9590 running at stock aircooled with 2 x 140mm intakes and 3 x 120mm exhaust very quiet settings.
