My parents are visiting at the moment so thought that it might be worth going somewhere for a long weekend within the UK (I'm in London) and give them a break from the city.

My dad's in a wheelchair, so any place we go would need to be fairly flat. Given this, what would be a good place to visit? Aim is generally to just go around a new city, try out restaurants etc. Maybe see a few cool things, but not overly active generally.

Initially someone had suggested Cardiff, but a few others said that it isn't a good choice due being...not very nice/absolutely nothing to do. Bath had also been suggested, but then some others mentioned that it's very cobblestony, so would make going around in a wheelchair quite tricky. Same for Oxford/Cambridge?

Somewhere flat, i know you said you wana stay in the UK but why not a trip to Netherlands perhaps, ferry trips for weekends is like 50 quid or somit.

Maybe go to a hotel, for example in the Cotswolds or Norfolk. Best Western plus hotels are pretty good for families, have pools and decent places to eat, comfortable, helpful staff etc.

They're visiting from India, so don't have the schengen visa needed for the bulk of Europe unfortunately. Not possible to apply here either as they would've needed to apply for it back in India. Ireland is an option, but then I need a visa, which delays matters a bit, lol.

I wouldn't say Bath is particularly "cobblestony" - some of the pavements aren't the flattest, but they aren't too bad.

The hills on the other hand - you probably wouldn't want to be pushing a wheelchair up some of them!!

Somerset?

Well's is a really nice place for a weekend away, pretty flat & the the cathedreal is impressive & Bishops palace has some amazing gardens.
In some ways similar to Bath but much smaller & less touristy although I can certianly recomend Bath for a weekend as I took my wife there last year for her birthday.

Bath is used to a fair amount of visitors/tourists, etc. mostly its fairly flat (not entirely) with reasonable disabled accessibility.

York. one hill which you dont have to go near. picturesque small city, full of good food and easy to get to by train from london (2 and a half hours, no changes)

Another vote for Brighton, looking to do the same myself. Shame the prices of hotels have nearly tripled compared to a few weeks back.

Is there anywhere specific they want to see? I know If I went to India I'd want to see Varanasi. Or have they been a few times and seen most of the famous stuff?
