Budget 2015: Osborne vs. the Economy

An increase in the inheritance tax threshold to £1m for married couples by 2017 - Further increases economic inequality.

Cutting the £26,000 benefit cap - the amount one household can claim in a year - to £23,000 in London and £20,000 in the rest of the country - Further increases economic inequality.

Making local authority and housing association tenants in England who earn more than £30,000 - or £40,000 in London - pay up to the market rent - Further increases economic inequality.

Maintenance grants for students - paid to students with family incomes below £42,000 - to be scrapped and converted into loans - Further decreases equal access to education & reduces social mobility.

The BBC covering the £650m cost of providing free television licences for over-75s - No loss here.

Allowing councils in England and Wales to relax Sunday trading laws - No huge loss here, assuming workers are protected.

A majority of the changes directly benefit me financially, as I'm paying at the higher rate this clearly isn't right when people at the bottom are far more in need of assistance.

a budget for working people...by the way 1% capped pay increase for the next four years, and did I mention we voted oursleves an 11% increase

I wouldnt mind so much if they didnt try to just feed us bullplop and tell us to enjoy it

just be honest..times are tough, I notice they have stopped with the 'in it together' crap though!

There seems to be an overwhelming sense of entitlement growing in my generation and the generations below me.

Everyone seems to want something for nothing, everything is a human right, and money seems to grow on trees.

I know what you mean. Did you see 'How to Get A Council House' the other night? I started watching it and had to turn of after 10mins, this women needed to be re-homed as she was being made homeless and Portsmouth council who like many other authorities had a limited number of council houses. This women who had been on benefits for 15 years had a list of demands she wanted from her new home; 'Can't be high up', 'Must take dogs', 'Must have a garden'. She then claimed she would make herself and children homeless if she didn't get what she wanted.

It's as if the media cherry picks these stories, even possibly scripts (I wouldn't put it past them) them to intentionally rile people up.

WELL I NEVER?! the TV lies to me?! how can this be?

Wow, no tax credits for the 3rd child onwards. It's a bold move Cotton...

I'm actually all for it, stop the more undesirable element pumping out kids to game the system.

You can't expect a family to give up their dog and small children aren't housed in high places usually because of the risk of kids dying.
