From what I gather some guy got paid to hack other people or provide tools to hack this guy got hacked probably by another team of hackers paid by some government.

They found that the original hacker's files weren't that well protected.

Also in the news some guy from the other team of Hackers got arrested and snitched on the other members.

A load of files are on t' net but don't touch them or you'll get 5 years in an American prison.

I think simply that a site/company that specialises in finding exploits and hacks and then sells these to governments, has in turn been hacked themselves.
Sounds like at least this was partly due to passwords being easy to decipher.

Part of the fallout is that others now have access to these exploits and can use them maliciously - see the Adobe Flash link I posted - which could affect end users quite badly.

Just goes to show you though doesn't it - doesn't matter how good your encryption is, humans will always be the weak link in the chain if they're in the chain.

it shows when people are required to create a complex password they will take the easiest route and probably write it down somewhere like in a "new text file" on the desktop

you just wouldn't believe how stupid some people are
