7870 dead. Best band per buck for £200

Hey guys

While playing WoW last night it appears my 7870 died. Each time I tried to reboot I would get past the bios and then my pc would green screen and then nothing until I used the power button to shutdown.

What would be the best card at the moment to replace it with and should I go AMD again?? The budget isn't set in stone but couldn't afford to go much higher.

You could get a used 780Ti for about £200.

780Ti if you can get one or a 290X, both level with each other and should cost roughly the same.

I wouldn't want to risk a used card to be honest.

Would be looking for a new one.

380 is the best card for that price new, they are about £175. You MIGHT be able to get a EOL R9 290 for that (I nabbed one on ebay for £191 earlier today), but you would have to be lucky. 780Ti maybe, good luck finding one, 970/R9 390 new for around £250.

Really don't want to take the risk with a B Grade item ( the 1440p thread above hasn't eased my worries either).

I'm getting on a bit in life and have a family....spending £200 on a graphics card is selfish enough so I want as small a risk as possible with it.

Of the 380s, is there any that stand out as being a killer deal?

I bought one of the B-Grade KFA2 GTX960 cards which was delivered yesterday and within a few hours it died. They had 10x in stock too.I would just buy a new card TBH.

What PSU do you have?

Gigabyte Radeon R9 380 G1 Gaming 4096MB GDDR5 £180 about 40% faster than a 7870

Or Splash out a bit more.

MSI Radeon R9 390 Gaming Edition 8192MB GDDR5 £260 and about 90% faster than a 7870.

Not sure sorry mate, I know the Sapphire Nitro cooler on the 390 is amazing, but the 380 looks like it has a cut down version, same with most of the other coolers, maybe the MSI card? check some reviews I guess.

I'd choose a card with minimum of 4Gb on it, either the Sapphire Nitro or the HIS IceQ x2 for £170 at OC on offer at the moment. Out of the 2 my preference would be the Sapphire card, they usually make damn good air coolers,

I have just spotted this...

Asus Radeon R9 290X ROG Matrix 4096MB GDDR £240.

You have to get that, for the sake of £40, its basically a 4GB R9 390X

It will double the performance, its more than twice the GPU.

7870 1280 Shaders
290X 2816 Shaders

7870 32 ROP's
290X 64 ROP's

7870 256Bit
290X 512Bit.

strange that product doesn't show under clearance>graphics cards when you manually go and search for it. Is that a rogue link?
