Black suit as casual wear?

I work in the legal sector and blue & grey are the most popular colours in my industry. A decent blue suit should always be invested in. Then again maybe you do not want to look like a lawyer!

Nope. No brown in town. Countryside jaunt is fine but no brown in town is commonly accepted practice.

Except it just isn't the case any more, and hasn't been for decades. You are living in the past.

Put it in the same pile as things like "You need to spend x month's wages on an engagement ring"

Obviously all my opinion but I've rarely seen someone in a blue suit and not thought "good god, why?". Either way, whatever suit you have, just make sure it fits properly! most don't...

I can't stand blue suits, they just make me think "used car/insurance salesman"

Blue suit just screams salesman to me, we all wear black/grey.

just thought I'd bump for the sake of the blue suit haters :)

all the guys aside from Prince Charles(in his double breasted light grey suit) have gone for blue:

If the Duke of Edinburgh is OK with a modern looking blue suit then, well.... haters gonna hate :)

If black is what you have to work with then by all means, go ahead, wear it with a white or off-white shirt, open neck, no tie. It'll look sharp without risk of being overdressed.

I personally prefer charcoal suits but if you've not got one it's not a big deal, and if she's not used to seeing you looking so smart she'll be surprised ;P

I like blue suits, but you could have picked a better example. Two of those four look bad, the other two okay. As usual, Charles smashes it. If anything, all that photo succeeds in doing is adding weight to the grey > blue argument.

Black suit is really terribly formal for casual wear. I'd want to be wearing a strongly coloured or patterned shirt to offset it a little, certainly no tie. Perhaps a strong colour with a nice patterned lining in the collar which will be seen with it worn open necked.

With it being black you don't really have a choice in shoe colour either so think about accessorising with colour too, perhaps a pocket square?

Gok?
