Terminator franchise reboot

I can't watch T2 any more. I think I've seen it so many times that I've become numb to it.

Dunno why ppl liked tscc show I thought I was total crap.

Obviously...

How did John Connor travel back in time after he was altered by Skynet? It had already been established that inorganic matter, unless encased in organic matter, couldn't be sent (tinfoil in a microwave analogy) and, by that point, there was nothing organic left. The fact that he would have been unable to use the machine was proven by the fact it ultimately destroyed him.

It was deleted from T2 and never mentioned in this film as such. Although I think the liquid metal/nanotech that overtook him was internal to begin with, as later it's seen that it is a black skeleton/muscle structure.

From Cameron on T2
Some say that the liquid metal can mimic human skin so flawlessly that it can fool the TDE. However, that can't be the case because the fact still remains it's not live, and only live things can move through time. The novelization and T2 extreme DVD text commentary explains that T-1000 was wrapped inside a flesh cocoon, that's why T-1000's arrival was done off screen.
Van Ling: That idea (flesh cocoon) was one we had bandied about during preproduction, but it was something that we thought would be too confusing to show visually it would have been like when Brett finds the shed alien skin in Alien. I still think it's the most logical explanation, given we see a flesh "mold" in the teaser trailer already. The other possibilities are that 1) the T-1000 could mimic the field generated by a living organism or 2) Reese really does NOT know tech stuff. Note that several comics and other media later played off the idea of surgically embedding weapons into human carriers and ripping them out of them once they arrived
originally there was suppose to be a scene showing officer Joe Austin finding the skin. Van Ling: it was something that we thought would be too confusing to show visually it would have been like when Brett finds the shed alien skin in Alien
The novelization itself tells a story of John and his soldiers stumbling upon traces of liquid metal left in the same flesh mold that we've seen in the teaser trailer supporting Van Ling's exact same explanation.
What I didn't understand was the start, it was indentical to T1 with respect to the garbage truck the T800 and Ryese but why then did the T1000 turn up? In the future the TDE was supposedly destroyed (but wasnt) so, did Skynet send it, or John, or what. It didn't happen in the original T1 so why now the huge continuity error?
Also I swear the person who supposedly created genisys was miles dyson, although I may have misheard that. However if I didn't, wouldn't he have been about 50 as he was mid thirties in 1995 and not some 25year old.

I think people have rose tinted glasses, particularly over T2.

You be illin'.

For what it's worth, I don't think t2 has any plot holes beyond the usual grandfather paradox stuff that goes with any time travel film. However, the reason people overlook it is because the film is simply too good for anyone to be worrying about that sort of thing.

As a huge fan of T1 and T2 I decided to ignore the critics and judge the movie for myself. I spent money watching this at the cinema a couple days back and I would have got a refund if that was possible.

Generic poorly developed characters - the script is ultimately the main culprit here and has destroyed the terminator franchise for me. The film feels rushed, going from set piece to peice, it feels like the director was just ticking boxes.

If not for the special effects this is a straight to DVD movie and should have never made it to the cinema - yes it's that bad. To those of you on the fence about watching, go spend your hard earned cash elsewhere.

^ it was only ever going to be awful. Even the adverts with arny was cringe worthy.

I'll wait till Netflix get it and might try watch it one boring afternoon.

Saw this yesterday at the Imax 3d

My expectation going in was that of a second decade of the 21st century hollywood summer popcorn made for dumb teenage americans to make $$$$ blockbuster movie

and on that basis I give it a solid 7/10

Rating it against the original.....erm, 2/10

IMHO the original is still the best, gritty, dark, 18 rated classic. T2 was great, but it was the start of the summer popcorn blockbuster fest we get fed today. If you love marvel films, you'll love this. If you loved the original predator, robocop, die hards then you won't

I'm having a hard time understanding a piece of the plot however -

Skynet would not know of the original timeline after the events of T2....why then would the T5000 turn John Connor into a T3000.

I quite like the Marvel films (except GotG, which is dross).

I really like Predator, quite like Robocop, Die Hard.

So I should quite like this?

Probably yes :p

In all honesty it is not that bad, just don't go in with high expectations and enjoy. We are only disappointed because we are comparing it with T1 and T2.

I only go cinema 2-3 times a year because there is hardly anything worth watching.

As the saying goes, there's no pleasing some people.

Whilst some criticisms of the film are valid, there seems to be a lot of vitriol aimed at it simply because it isn't T1 or T2. When the original films are revered as much as these are, no sequel/prequel/reboot is ever going to measure up in some people's eyes.

It would if the story & script made you feel something for the characters like the first two did. All the other films feel like they were done purely for money rather than because the director had passion for advancing the overall storyline of John & Sarah etc.

I also wonder if this "generation" of actors are even upto the task. In T1 Michael Biehn's performance was utterly convincing as someone from a horrific future. He's physique was believable, his eyes were believable, his ability to emote the feelings he had for Sarah were believable etc. Jai Courtney shows none of that ability in this film. Remember that the ONLY reason he volunteered to go back in T1 was his deep love for Sarah. Did Jai convince you that he felt the same way (which he should)?

I have similar feeling about the casting of Sarah but it's just a repeat of above really.

Could not agree more!

Could not care at all for the characters on screen when watching this movie.

Imagine if they did a T2 type scene at the end where the terminator is killed. It would be like meh, whatever. Lol.

Right now Hollywood with movies like this are just going crazy with cgi and action scenes and rest of the movie has little substance. They need to strike a balance. Action scene after action scene does not make a good movie in my book.

sounds like you prefer the 80s action films more than the recent comic book stuff. I think you'll enjoy it, but won't think it's amazing.

80's movies were the best... obviously there are still good movies today, but the 80's was my era for moves...

Predator
Robocop
Aliens
Terminator
Short Circuit 1 and 2

All amazing films.... and they can't and never will be beaten by being remade etc.. I mean look at the new Robocop... *facepalm
