And you may even look at "Fresh" food with a more critical eye!

This has been doing the rounds in my (Real life, real people :D ) social group (Does passing a Book round constitute "File-Sharing/Piracy" in the modern world? :p )

While I have never been a big fan of processed food (Ready meals), I have eaten it from time to time. But no more!

(I have always felt that ready meals are made out of the stuff that cannot be sold as stuff in its own right. IE Skin, Sinew, everything that is left once all the recognised cuts have been removed from the carcase It probably won't kill you but it isn't really very nice, unfortunately the reality is much, much worse! :( )

None of my friends who have read this will eat ready meals ever again either!

(We are not a wealthy group so this does mean that we will all have to reprioitise our expenses)

Even "fresh" food is still tainted by processing, but it is still a lot better than the stuff that has gone through the factories!

Read it and see what you think!

I stopped eating bad nearly 5 years ago, couple books I can recommend on how to if anyone is interested, 150 healthiest foods, primal blueprint, paleo diet (don't need to follow exactly but it's got good tips), and the ultramind solution (Some of it is a bit extreme other parts good).

Ready meals? NO THANKS. Documentary called Food inc really sent me over the edge about the food industry, it's about america but it's all shady... The problem is so many people are completely unaware and seem unwilling to even learn. This is why they can get away with what they do.

If you ever try to speak to someone about nutrition in any form pay close attention to their eyes and watch them immediately glaze over at the first sniff of something that forces them to have to think. It's not even like you have to be a nutrition nut... just a basic understanding will be enough.

Edit: Had a look at the book, down on my to read list sounds interesting.

Delicious.

Food manufacturers should be open about what they are actually doing when they make food + profit margin to match the price people want to pay?

Fixed for you.

If they can still produce and sell on that basis then fair enough. It is the customers choice.

But the "Free market" relies on customer knowledge. as long as the food processors work in secret it is not a free market because the customers do not know what it is that they are buying!

£1.29 tells you everything that you need to know!

My GF has started making her own cakes. (as a result of reading the book)

I warned her that it would be more expensive to do so over the shop bought ones.

But there is a reason for that!

Lucky you. The cakes my missus makes don't really qualify as edible.

Where would I get the time to Shave, spit and drink beer?

Making Cake is an honourable tradition.

(When you are not otherwise engaged in burning bits of dead animal)

I am sure you can find time for it in your busy schedule. :D

(I don't at present since I am on a diet! Dead animal only for now!)

We make all our own food. The freezer is 90% empty as food is made fresh. All we use it for is ice cubes and ice cream. We both work in the food manufacturing industry and some of the things I have seen have put me off certain products for life.

Joanna Blythman is Britain's leading investigative food journalist and an influential commentator on the British food chain. She has won five Glenfiddich awards for her writing

Haha, I've won a couple of those myself. Though not for writing.

I think if we banned bread and cheese we'd be a hell of a lot healthier. Sure cheese is good for you and nutritious... it's just impossible for average joes with no control (like me) to eat a quantity that doesn't spiral your calorie intake into the stratosphere :p

God yes, cheese... more cheese gromit! I always go overboard with it, especially on a spag bol etc.. grate way to much.

Got to be vintage cheddar though, all the way.

Banning bread would be awful!
