Such a tragic story. A couple were in a car accident and a passer by called the cops, and they didn't even bother to look. The boyfriend passed away on the spot and the girlfriend was lying criticall injured in the car next to her dead boyfriend for three days. It was only when a second report came in that prompted the cops to have a look and rescued the girl.

She just passed away.

I seriously hope that the force involved get dragged over the coals for this.

Quite tragic. Unfortunately it sometimes takes something like the death of a person to action changes to failings in systems. Hopefully this can be prevented from happening ever again.

Sad news indeed, especially if her accident induced injuries would have been recoverable, if emergency services had responded to that call. :(

Very sad indeed. It seems totally unbelievable that the Police wouldn't follow up on such a report.

Problem is we don't yet know what the original report was. It was made to 101 and the caller evidently didn't think to stop so they presumably weren't calling to report two people trapped in a crashed vehicle.

Perhaps they thought it was an abandoned car..no occupants? If you saw a car crash first thing you do is stop to help and call 999. The fact the caller didnt do that leads me to believe they surely thought it was abandoned...why the hell phone 101 otherwise?

You see a crashed vehicle, and you don't look inside to see if anyone is hurt?

That's pretty much unbelievable to me.

This is why I think the emergency assistance feature in my new car is a pretty good idea. If you crash in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night it will call 999 and give them your gps location.

Although, perhaps like in this instance they wouldn't bother to turn up :p

I passed a car on the roadside of a dual carriageway at 5am en route to work once. It was clearly crashed into the hedge that lined the road. It was impossible for me to stop as I was travelling over 60mph and the car was on a blind bend off a roundabout. Stopping would have been dangerous.

Instead I stopped at the next lay-by and called 101 to report the vehicle. It was already known to local police hours before in the night, no one was hurt.

I've just read that this was on a motorway? That's understandable. This falls on the Police then, how can they not investigate a crashed car in a field off a motorway?

Note to self: read the attached article next time.

What kind of crash do you have where nobody traveling on a motorway notices for 3 days? I assume they were a fair way from the road, or crashed in a way that didn't leave any obvious sign that they had gone off?
