BT Infinity coming - a few questions...

I'm hoping someone on here might have some experience with BT Infinity installations, and be able to answer some questions.

My closest BT exchange has been fibre-enabled for nearly 3 years, yet despite living in the middle of suburbia, less than a mile from that exchange, I'm still waiting for the fibre rollout. At the beginning of the month I saw a couple of Openreach vans parked at the entrance to the small estate I live on. I popped down for a quick chat, as they had a trailer with a big cable drum attached and I'm a nosy bugger. The engineer was happy to chat, and told me they were installing the fibre cables to my estate. There's a cabinet on the main road at the entrance to the estate, but the fibre was coming from the next cabinet up. They were there for a few hours, and ended up cabling right in to the junction box (correct term?) in my front garden. The chap said I would be getting fibre right in to my house when the installation was ready to go live. The house is eight years old, so I was quite surprised to learn that FTTP was on the cards. The questions I have are:

- How long might I now have to wait before I can place an order?
- Is there much involved in getting the last stage completed? i.e. fibre from the junction box in to my house (about 3 metres maximum).
- Will the fibre be terminating at the same location as my master phone socket?
- My master socket was placed in a stupid location by the builders, how difficult is it to have that and the fibre connection relocated from one side of the front door to the other?
- What kind of speeds can I hope for is it is indeed an FTTP connection?

Could be weeks. Could be months. Obviously you'll probably either know by the engineers being outside the house or get a letter asking if they can enter the garden to run the fibre.

It didn't take long for me to get sorted out with BT. I have my computer in a spare room and the master socket was in the living room, they put a new master socket in the spare room for me free of charge. Speeds are good for me:

Thanks, they've already been in my garden, so the fibre is in place right up to within a couple of metres of my front door.

Cheers, I'm hoping for similar speeds in the very near future! I'm just after the socket being moved from one side of the front door to the other.

Some more work being done outside mine today - the fibre cable is now good to go, and the engineer reckoned I should be able to get the installation within six weeks.

Does anyone have the Infinity 3 (200Mbps) or Infinity 4 (300Mbps) packages? Is there any chance BT will have any deals for these? Is there any tangible difference between the two to justify an extra £10 a month?

A quick update to this; I've been running the line checker every week and today it's been updated to say I can place an order - I've done so, and should be getting Infinity 3 (200Mbps) in three weeks time. Hooray!
