In normal UK english pickles are pickled things of any kind, in US english and burger speak pickles are gherkins.
All of them are wonderful.

A gherkin is a type of cucumber but in common usage the name refers to them prepared as a pickle.

In the UK they are pickled gherkins, but people are too lazy to say 2 words
