Okay, so I'm putting a new gaming computer together from scratch; primarily for CS:GO; so I've already bought a 144hz monitor (Asus VG248QE 24-inch 3D LED), and a Corsair K65 Mechanical Keyboard; So this is what I threw together, I could use some feedback, just to make sure I am making the right decision in terms of components and PSU; I'm interested to know your thoughts!

Basket:
1 x Asus X99-S - Intel Core i7 5820K Six Core CPU & Motherboard Bundle ***£30 Saving*** - £524.98
1 x Corsair Hydro H105 240mm Extreme Performance Liquid CPU Cooler (CW-9060016-WW ) - £94.99
1 x Corsair Vengeance 16GB (4x4GB) DDR4 PC4-24000C15 3000MHz Quad Channel Kit - Black (CMK16GX4M4B3000C15) - £149.99
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 G1 Gaming 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - £398.99
1 x Seagate Barracuda 500GB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 16MB Cache - OEM (ST500DM002) HDD - £36.95
1 x Samsung 120GB 850 EVO SSD 2.5" SATA 6Gbps 32 Layer 3D V-NAND Solid State Drive - £59.99
1 x Corsair Carbide 330R Silent Mid Tower Case - Titanium Edition (CC-9011071-WW) - £84.95

PSU (Not too sure about this one, so some help would be much appriciated!)

Either:

1 x EVGA Supernova GS 650W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply - £76.99

OR:

1 x EVGA SuperNova G2 750W '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply - £94.99

Total: £1427.83 || £1445.83 (depending on PSU).

Any alternative components, suggestions, etc are all welcome!

Thanks very much! :)

Well for starters X99 is completely overkill for gaming, especially something like CS:GO which doesn't require an awful lot to run smoothly.

Either PSU is fine but I'd go with 750w if you plan to SLI in future ;)

Thanks for the response, yeah, it probably is overkill to be honest. I pretty much just selected components based on their reviews on various websites, the X99 was 5* pretty much everywhere, so I thought, defiantly can't go wrong with this :p

Do you have any suggestions in terms of possible alternatives? Also, I probably don't need 16GB of RAM, I guess I could down that to 8GB and save myself some cash?

Any advice is very much appreciated, cheers.

(P.S: I would like to play CS:GO at high settings VERY smoothly at 144hz and watch high quality films, pretty much all I'll be using it for..)

Awesome, thanks so much for taking the time to fashion together such a lovely piece of kit! I really do appreciate it! I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to hardware, so forgive my incompetence; but I don't understand how dual DVI works when it comes to these types of graphics cards? For instance, the MSI GeForce GTX 980 explicitly states that it has support for "four concurrent displays including: Two dual-link DVI"; but from the picture I can only see one DVI port, the rest are HDMI; can anyone explain to me the technicalities behind this phenomenon? Haha

Thanks very much for you feedback! I will taking all these builds into consideration when making a final decision on the components I buy, so the feedback is very much appreciated!

Oh man, I'm just a dumb ass, they're different connector types, lmao. I intuitively thought Dual DVI meant two DVI outputs, because when I Googled dual DVI it came up with a picture of a DVI cable that split into two, haha. But I see there's a different number of pins on the male / female connectors. I should defiantly be paying more attention to these images when I'm googling.

You can use the DL-DVI or DP to get 144Hz on your monitor. You will have to buy the cable, as it doesn't come with the monitor. I have the Asus VG248QE and it is a cracking monitor, although for some reason, the DP port on the monitor stopped working. So I use the DL.
I would however, look around the net to see what system specs other CS:GO gamer's are using and at what settings and resolutions. No point in spending money on a system you might not fully utilise. I don't play the game, but maybe an i5 and a 970 would be sufficient and possible a smaller Psu, if you are not going to sli. You could also swap out the mobo or stick with the Asus board I specced, if you want the free headphones.

I can recommend this CPU/MOBO bundle. It will save you quite a lot of cash.

I also have the EVGA G2 650W PSU which so far I have been happy with as it is dead quiet (very important to me as I need my PC to be silent when not gaming).

I am using a Gigabyte GTX 960 Windforce as I only game at 1680x1050 (old small dell 2007WFP's that I am too tight to upgrade....)
