Read this and you may never want to eat a ready meal again!

If it's not knowing who a celeb is it's never eaten a ready meal.

I love this place.

Are you really saying you can't walk into a supermarket any day of the week in the UK and not be able to buy a trolley full of fresh food?

Because that's an unimaginably stupid lie.

What is fresh? How do you define 'fresh'? If you're talking about what you can feel, what you can smell, what you can taste and see, then 'fresh' is simply electrical signals interpreted by your brain.

As weirdly as you come across, this is a very good point. I do wonder how many of the posters in this thread have meals served up by mummy.

Back in the 70's these things were called TV dinners, they came on a little plastic plate with separate sections, so you'd have a blob of meat with gravy, a blob of potato and a blob of peas.

The novelty of being on a plane soon wore off though.
In hindsight I think I'd rather have had a bacon sandwich.

I probably eat far too many ready meals, after nights getting in after even the nighttime food vendors are in bed. I do think about the salt/sugar etc, but I don't really care about the source of the meat - had plenty of meals here where tongue/stomach lining/testicles/lungs/blood are served as individual dishes to be enjoyed, I'd almost rather it was all just mashed together :p

I don't even remember the last time I had a ready meal??

Ready meals are for fat people, period. ;)

Have you been to a supermarket recently? :p

Must admit though, supermarkets in places such as Spain are far superior at stocking fresh fruit/veg/ or produce such as bread

Read the article - don't care - I'll still eat ready meals (not that I eat more that one or two a month anyway).

I had a Sainsbury's Laksa tonight because we didn't get home till late and it was the only shop open. Disgusting!!!

On another note my father inlaw who is very much OCD eats these dinners all the time because it doesn't dirty up his kitchen... have tried telling him whats in these microwave dinners but he just doesn't seem to care. Guess there's lots of people like him in the world.

i have just posted my experience mate, ofcourse i didnt say all of you eat poorly. I have seen though a large portion of the population buying ready to eat cakes and stuff like this, still remember those cheap tarts that looked like plastic :p

anyway it wasnt my intention to insult you just point that bad habits with a bit of effort can be improved. And the greek comment is irrelevant, i am sure grandmas cook awesome foods in britain, just the younger generation seems reckless

The speed of life in the U.K is a lot faster than say Greece. The amount of people here that work 7 day working weeks is on the up. People just do not have the time which is where ready meals come in. I personally do not but for example it takes me a good two hours to make a Lasagna for around the same cost as one of those massive ones you can buy that takes 30 minutes to cook.

I can see why people eat the ready made stuff, it's so easy to just buy and make. I've moved out from my parents house for 3 months now having finished uni to start a new job and the toughest thing is having to decide what ingredients to buy and what to cook each night. I've managed it every night so far but it's just so tempting to go the lazy way especially after a tough week at work.

Utter rubbish people are posting on here saying they all cook fresh, rubbish, lol, ok like less than 10% might, but no one cooks fresh, no time, at best ill cook fish in the oven, throw some spuds on and wack some frozen veg in........thats me at my best, rest time its sandwiches and frozen pizza, because, busy, and im not fat either, normal sized, to busy with stuff to slave over a hot stove 10 hours a day! lol

I don't know how anyone can eat these ready meals or cheap burgers, chicken nuggets etc. Every time I have something like that i will get a bit of bone or gristle in it, without fail. I might just be more squeamish than most people, but I have to leave whatever i am eating as it makes me feel sick just thinking about it.

Then buy better quality ready meals. If you pay £1 for it, you'll get maybe 30p's worth of food (that £1 must also include manufacturing and distribution costs and some profit) and that's not at all likely to be good. Meat in it will be very poor quality indeed. The manufacturing and distribution costs of better quality ready meals will be pretty much the same, so the business can spend far more on ingredients and still make more profit per item sold. The difference between a £1 ready meal and a £3 ready meal is night and day. Even the difference between a £1 ready meal and a £2 ready meal can be very large, but once you get to the £3+ price bracket they're actually quite decent and obviously as convenient as the manky cheap ones.
