As thread title suggests, anyone have any experience of installing a OEM version of windows on a second motherboard that's a replacement of the original?

I've done some looking around and general consensus seems to be that it is achievable and the one exception MS make to installing an OEM OS on another motherboard, just as long as it is a replacement (e.g. same model or near as possible).

Where I'm confused is how straightforward it is with varying stories about activation of the OS after install. Some say it's fine and goes through automatically, others that you have to call the activation line to plead explain your case etc. Can anyone share? I have a replacement z77 due back from MSI soon and don't know whether I'm getting an exact replacement or like for like.

I called the activation line when I replaced my mobo. Took around 10mins on the phone and I was done.

I upgraded from an AMD 970 board to an Intel Z97 along with a new CPU - they asked why I needed a replacement code and I said that the AMD board has blown it capacitors and I upgraded to intel.

Simple really, I was expecting a battle but got nothing but help.
