Does this enrage anyone else?

I have spent the entire morning trying to find a replacement AUO B173HW01 V.5 screen for my Precision M6600 CAD laptop and I have been through hundreds of product pages on dozens of web site and every single time they have small print about how they will send a "compatible" panel depending on stock, basic brain function tells me that most if not all of these sites have no stock but are offering the product with the specific intent to ship a "compatible" instead. How is this even legal? If a company sold Ferrari F355's with the small print that they may ship "compatibles" if the was a shortage and then sent their customers a Nissan Sunny then they would be straight to court.

Sorry this has turned into a rant, I did honestly intend to gauge peoples opinions on this type of behaviour, not only do I consider it fraud but it's double annoying as it makes it even harder to spot the genuine retailers.

Had to replace a screen on a work's Precision M6500 laptop a few months ago, Dell couldn't source me one. Found a company in the UK who supplied one, cant link them here for obvious reasons but can drop you a trust with the name/website if you need.

How can it be fraud if they're telling you the conditions of sale, even if it's in small print? It's your risk to take.

I get what the Op is saying, its just so they come up in product searches and looks like they sell the product.

Happens all the time with spare parts.

But surely you wouldnt accept using google for searching for say a HOF 980ti and it comes up with ocuk but on their page it says "depending on stock, we may send you a compatible card"?

Because they are advertising something they don't really have, and attempting to hide the fact they will send you something different/cheaper instead.

Please.

Just ring them up to find if they have stock? It's not miss-selling if they tell you before hand.

Almost as annoying as when you're searching for something, and the morons put "ITEM YOU DON'T WANT!!! NOT <LIST OF ITEMS INCLUDING THE ONE YOU DO WANT>"

So that when you search for the item you want, you get a load of results for items you don't want, specifically telling you it's an item you don't want.

Yeh, imagine a company selling a product with memory and not telling you that an eighth of it was gimped...

"LED TV" "LED Monitor"

No, they are not "LED" panels, they are LED backlit LCD displays

OcUK are famous for playing along with manufactured titles from manufacturers too, so slapped wrists all round :p

Out of interest what is specific about that one screen model that would mean a compatible is not suitable?
A lot of model laptops are shipped with different screen brands and models anyway.

Got me one of these! For a 5 year old laptop, it is still better than the new units that our IT guys think are acceptable for power users. lol

Quality basically, it's one of the best panels you can get hence why it came in a two grand laptop, replacing it with any unbranded chinese panel that fits would be very obvious and look like vomit.

The are probably some comparable premium panels out there now that could be modded to work or whatever, but I would rather get the OEM part, especially when I know they are still out there, you just have to battle through the see of hay to find the needle.
