So So tempted with 2x 290X Vapor-X Tri-X, waiting on gpu's to sort themselves out so i can decide between fury pro, keeping my 7990 or selling a organ to buy a 980ti.
Seems prices on cards should be dropping soon and thinking id be a fool to upgrade right now, but Tri x crossfire for less the a cheap furyx seems damn tempting.

You'd be safe in the knowledge that the performance is potentially higher than any standalone card and will see you through to dx12 for sure.

I've used crossfire before and didn't have many problems , and when I did amd matt is always around these forums he's the king of making crossfire work properly , there's a thread on it somewhere so just follow that and you'll be fine :)

Not for gaming surely.

Too much hassle with crossfire at the moment.

With a small handful of games, sure.
Generally, it's all good, but people seem to get way too easily caught up in things that get massively overblown by a handful of people repeating the same thing over and over until everyone thinks that xfire doesn't work at all.

OP, if you're generally happy with your 7990, you'll be even happier with a pair of 290x's - assuming you have decent ventilation/airflow etc.

Youre probably right.

I use crossfire and with the latest drivers (15.7) all the AAA titles work fine. Farcry 4 and Witcher 3 are a smooth 60fps so can't complain. The only game I have that doesn't work properly with crossfire is Watchdogs.

I basically saved a whole load of cash by returning a Galax 970 due to the memory issue and crossfiring my old 7950. I can get at least another year out of my tahiti setup which actually runs as fast or faster than the 970/980 level cards.

+1

I enjoyed running 290 Crossfire. Rarely had any problems.

Ordered my 290x cf this morning. Bit nervous as prices are all over the place. However for what I've paid I surely can't do any better, not sure I can mention prices due to it been from somewhere else (I'd rather buy from here but you can't always) but less then the cheapest 980. Happy days.
